Why only 2GB of RAM and only 16GB of internal storage on the T5 ? Even entry level sub $100 smartphones now have at least 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage now ...c'mon Minix you can do better !

(No doubt I am drastically over simplifying things here & this is purely my personal opinion alone ;). I'm also avoiding making direct comparisons to other non-MINIX devices lol.)...

Ultimately, however, does the Neo T5 really need more than 2GB RAM or 16GB storage? I think it'll be plenty for the vast majority :). (As @JJ-KwiK has just added, MINIX are hopefully following up in the not too distant future with another new device (Neo U22) that could essentially be viewed as a natural successor to the U9-H as well. The U22 does have the extra RAM & storage, & it's priced accordingly :) ).

The Neo T5 has the 2 x USB ports adding a huge amount of potential expansion. GbE ethernet also gives fast & reliable access to NAS/network shares too, (potentially unlimited expansion) ;). It's running the lighter/simplified Android TV OS too & it's not a gaming machine, it has a fairly specific job to do in direct comparison to the pure Android media hubs.

Excellent hardware, CPU/GPU, HDMI 2.0, SPDIF & the retail package will probably come with the usual extras, (a basic IR remote, cabling, DC adapter, etc.). Specs - 4K, HDR, (& that list will go on too).

Not to mention, MINIX world class engineering & build quality too :). All for just $85 bucks ;). (Relatively speaking of course, can you find an entry level smartphone that would even come close lol?)

Affordability is presumably a major factor. Add that extra 1GB RAM &/or another 16GB of internal storage when it's not absolutely necessary, various licensing fees & other factors in turn could get bumped up which are costs that would probably end up affecting final retail pricing too. I was (pleasantly) surprised when I saw the retail price myself, I was thinking higher when considering the specs & the package as a whole ;)!!

It's an exciting time for MINIX fans & hopefully many new customers as well :).

Yes there are many many examples of smartphones that not only just comes close, but over exceeds that for around $85 as well, you'll be very surprised on what you can get for under $100usd these days and that to me is true quality !

4GBs of DDR4, Dolby Vision technology, three USB 3 ports, one USB Type-C port, HDMI 2.1 (High bandwidth)
What else do you need?

Should be able to do both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. These two formats are currently duking it out and the loser will be like Betamax ! ...LoL
