My face when I see the U22 for the first time:

Do we get the remote with the U22 XJ?
Is this box going to be google certified? They mentioned that the NEO T5 going to be the 1st, but nothing was mentioned for the U22 XJ

Neo T5 use Android TV Pie and U22 will use full Android 9 version.

Well this announcement of the U22-XJ is very good news (even if I am a little late to the thread :D)

I will be getting the U22-XJ just as soon as it come available in my area. I will also be installing CoreElec just as soon as they have support for the U22-XJ. No only do I not like the android OS, but I have no reason to use it as the only thing I use my minix boxes for is watching movies/TV I have on my hard disks. I have computers for anything internet related. I only need Kodi, which is what CoreElec has.

Equally happy to see USB3 ports on the box.

So maybe by Christmas. (y)(y)(y)

I agree with what you have said, as it's my case exactly. I am looking at replacing my ageing U1 which has been fantastic running Coreelec. However, from a doing a bit of reading on the various forums, it has been suggested that the U22-XJ, along with the T5, will most likely have locked bootloaders so that Coreelec cannot be installed. I am no software engineer, so I cannot comment on the validity of this comment. It will be a deal breaker for me if I cannot install Coreelec on the U22.

Cheers

MINIX NEO T5 hasn't been officially released yet.
Unfortunately, certain features on your MINIX NEO T5 won't work until the end of this month when it's official released.
For example, the Google Chromecast feature is currently disabled, it will automatically activate in a couple of weeks.
My apologies for any inconvenience caused, it seems a reseller has jumped the gun and begun selling early.

Anyone have any info on this ?
Is this correct ?

Amlogic offers variants of their processors depending on whether they come with Dolby and/or DTS licenses. For example, the Amlogic S922X-J only has Dolby license. But the Amlogic S922X-H has both Dolby and DTS licenses.
To clarify, Amlogic S922X-J has official support for Dolby Audio and Dolby Vision.
As far as we're aware, we're the only media hub manufacturer using this CPU variant.

Pure Android is designed for touch use. But Android TV is designed to use remote control.
For example, when navigating through pure Android menus, some menus do not have any clues as to where you are located.
That is, the option you are in does not change color or bold. So you don't know which part of the menu you are in !
But on Android TV these have been fixed and ready to use the remote control.
So on pure Android, though a standard remote control might be enough for your regular tasks.
But to make full use of pure Android, you'll definitely need an air mouse.

Hard disks go to standby when not in use.
You can also use the hard drive software to determine the time between hard drive idling and standby mode.
I have a U1 device. When I turn it off, all the hard drives that are connected to it go into standby mode.
The Android TV Remote Control app is a good option for controlling MINIX NEO T5.

Android OS App available to download here:

iOS App available to download here:

I still haven't written reviews of the minix devices. This will be my first review.

Note:
My specialty is audio and video and most of my review will be in this area.
