First install

ahh..so thats the missing instructions...nice one ....I should have thought of that !

anyways...i have just reinserted the SSD now the rugby has finished () without disabling anything in the bios and now the SSD is seen as extra storage ( D: drive) so at least I havent broken anything.

whats the general opinion about which is best / fastest

windows on the eMMC and booting from there
or windows on the SSD and booting from the SSD ?
SSD is faster but eMMC is good enough.
I have SSD for data and eMMC for OS.

Also I have re-enabled the eMMC support and it is displayed as D: drive.

The SSD has Windows Version 1903 and the eMMC had 1809.
Thank you. I only knew that eMMC had 1809 by default. I did not test booting from SSD.

Guys I noticed with this device you can disable the Beep at startup. (y)

Chipset > South Cluster Configuration > BEEP
I am curious because i know that both J50C-4 and G41V-4 have the same BIOS versions (only date is different) and i got with that impression.
Can you confirm that J50C-4 does not have in bios - beep sound option?

First picture is from G41V-4
Second and third picture are from BIOS - mainboard

BIOS will be different for each device (some different settings) J50C-4 has a fan for example...

Now I've setup the device to boot from the SSD I will leave it like that.

Having re-enabled the eMMC it is available as extra storage which I will use for media and documents.

I am going to change ☺.
I think it is more useful for me having SSD for OS , (is faster) and eMMC for other things.
It is more useful at least for me because for storage - data i have NAS.
It is also quicker for installing or unistalling programs, yes i will change and keep as i have in N42C-4.

I haven't had a chance to set mine up for a play yet but I'd go with running Win from the SSD. It'll definitely be snappier.

Once fully up & running you can always reenable the eMMC, format it & use it as additional storage if you wish.

I've always used a 240 GB SSD in my N42C-4 & I've never been short on storage. Having said that, it's networked to an "undisclosed number" of TB's of NAS space PMSL ;). (Google wouldn't be short of space if they needed my NAS hehe ;).)

all went pete tong for me o_O

followed instructions to activate windows OK with no SSD installed, all worked OK
disabled the eMMC within the BIOS menu before inserting the SSD
inserted the SDD as per 1st photo
and then get as per 2nd image when turning G41 on

now just get 2nd image with either
turning on the G41 with eMMC reenabled with the SSD in
and turning on the G41 with eMMC reenabled with the SSD removed

so now G41 doesnt work at all :(

any ideas ??
It's very much like a problem with the disorder of the boot option.
I'll double check that.

Maybe i will do the same too...
I wanted to test all windows upgrades steps first. Good to know the result for anyone who will buy the device without SSD.
Funny really as I thought I would do as I did then do the reverse and finish up using the eMMC for the OS and perform all updates!

I made the change (SSD booting and eMMC for the rest)
One thing that is faster is upgrading/or install firmware from scratch (without windows update). (i used a usb hard drive instead of a small pendrive)
The only problem is that we have to install everything we want again.
I can confirm that firmware for this device is working - 1903 image :)

I decided to do this way to be able to help users. We had so many requests about upgrade failures with older devices ...

Come on guys, let's try everything! Who will be the first to wipe Windows and install a version of Linux? ;):ROFLMAO:
