Analog Audio Record and Playback

We would like to use a J50C-4 to record and playback audio. I've been able to record from a USB audio interface, but I'm hoping to record analog audio directly into the 3.5 mm jack. I can get analog audio playback from the adapter I have to use to connect the HDMI to the VGA projectors, that works fine. I was hoping to be able to then use the 3.5 mm jack for stereo line-level input, but I haven't been able to make that work. Windows detects when I plug into the jack, and I can specify that it's line level stereo input, but all I get is silence.

I think I read somewhere that the jack is intended for a TRRS plug for a headset with stereo earphones and mono microphone. Is the J50C-4 capable of stereo input at all? Do I need to make an adapter to route the left and right audio to the correct conductors? If so, which conductors?

If all else fails, we can use a USB interface. Analog would be much more convenient, but I don't want to keep struggling with this if it's impossible.

I'm working off an N42C to refresh my memory right now but if memory serves it's more or less identical to the J50 in that regard.

You may need to tinker around with the Realtek HD Audio app as well. There's a setting under the Mic tab, (device advanced settings (top right corner.)). Ultimately, you can opt to combine the recording device used by the line input/3.5mm jack or seperate them which may give you a couple of extra options/control including a separate "playback volume" slider.

You may need to double up & check through the usual options in the Win control panel under sound & hardware too. Don't forget you may also need to tinker with the actual recording quality too. (Select the wrong bit rate/frequency for your hardware & it may well record or output total silence.)
 
I am having a similar problem trying to use the line in 3.5mm jack for audio input.
On other computers, I use the Realtek HD audio manager which is available when you right click the speaker icon, bottom right of screen, go to playback devices ->recording. But this option is not available on my neo Z83-4.

So I installed it from the realtek site, but following install, it appears in the device manager under Sound, video and game controllers, but is not available as an option as described above. If you have a look at the attached screenshot, you can see that the event log indicates that further instalation steps are required, but I can't find any more info from some recent searches.

Any help appreciated!
