Hi. I bought Sabrent 512GB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD on Amazon for my new MINIX NEO G41V-4. And BIOS does not see this drive. Then I found this discussion on your forum that not all SSDs are the same and compatible. Ok. Now I'm trying to by something that would work and about 500GB size. I found this list of devices "tested and verified by MINIX". I picked SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB. But it looks the way I doubt it would fit into my G41V-4. See link below. What am I missing here? Is it a typo?. Thank you.

Unfortunately I just can't remember with any reliability to be certain at all, but I seem to recall John mentioning in a similar thread that NVMe isn't compatible with the Intel MINIX mini PC's!!????

Have a look through some of the other previous G41V & J50C -4 threads. (Or, even some N42C-4 threads as well. The same SSD's are essentially compatible or incompatible respectively across all three devices.)

You need M.2 SATA not M.2 NVMe

See my post here. Different device but the same goes!

Thank you for helping. I've bought SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500GB M.2 SATA after reading your post. Now I know much more about SSD drives :)
It's already arrived! Amazon rules! BIOS can see it. and I could see it from Disk Management. Will try to transfer Windows on it today's evening.
Thank you again!

It's possible to buy M.2 SATA drives of 1TB capacity. Are they likely to work? MINIX's page for the NEO G41V-4 seems to suggest that 512GB is the max, but is that really true? Is there some kind of technical limitation here that someone could explain to me?

I'm going to go out on a limb with a very generalised answer lol, and obviously this is purely my personal opinion & certainly not the official standpoint of MINIX themselves.

From previous information elsewhere etc., I think one of the main reasons why they only officially test SSD's up to a certain size (such as 512 GB) is based on what they'd "reasonably expect" which upgrades the average user of these products may potentially consider purchasing or actually go ahead with for these relatively cheap mini PC's with all things considered. (Very happy to be corrected if wrong & it would also be extremely useful if the information could be provided in this thread if SSD's > 512 GB categorically can or cannot be used in the N42/G41/J50 too, however :).)

Otherwise, bear in mind one of their primary purposes is to make these very affordable mini PC's easily available with either a 32 - 64 GB eMMC as standard (SSD optional), & a licensed OEM copy of Win 10 Home/Pro also pre-installed ready to go right out of the box. Going with a 32 GB eMMC (where applicable) meant significant savings indeed could be passed on to end users due to the very low licensing fees required.) It's improbable that there is a particularly high demand for such large SSD's in these little mini PC's. (In fact, I can only recall 1 or possibly 2 other people previously asking about the use of M.2 SSD's that large.)

Additionally, as examples, the N42-C, G41V-, or J50C- (4) models which all have M.2 SSD expansion slots also all have significant options for directly adding the extra storage/expansion via their USB ports, or over a network as well, (such as NAS).

512 GB M.2 SSD's (or greater) were also really quite pricey when these devices were designed or initially released too. M.2 SSD prices have continued to drop but depending on certain specifics, a high capacity SSD may end up costing nearly as much, or actually more than the devices themselves which may also potentially put end users off that sort of expense.

MINIX not having tested SSD's any larger than 512 GB in the above devices "might" not necessarily mean they wouldn't function either. There's a chance some could possibly work, but obviously the expense or hassle of purchasing one with a risk that it may not even be detected, let alone function, is what will immediately put the majority off & rightfully so. (Another user posting up details of whether they successfully tested such a large SSD may be your only way of knowing too if they already happened to own one to test it out perhaps?)

However, if you're using your MINIX mini PC for a highly specialised purpose (as some do), or the increased internal capacity is a genuine requirement for you, I'd suggest emailing MINIX support directly. (Include full details/info, and/or the link to your post here too if you wish. Just be prepared for the response that the data you already have is the maximum they'll stick to)....

Hello,

iam new here and new to the Minix. I have two questions i hope someone can help me out.

Iam going to buy Minix NEO G41V-4. I need a Mini PC that is Silent so I don’t wake up my wife.
Iam going to use it to stream games from Shadow Tech. I will stream to my Acer 27" Predator XB270HU G-Sync IPS (2560x1440) Monitor. And if possible get close to 144hz.

- Are the MiniX NEO G41-4V able to stream games? Or are there better Silent options?

- Are the Minix NEO G41-4V compatible with Samsung MZ-N6E250BW 860 EVO M.2 250GB SATA M.2 Internal SSD Black or can you recommend something else on amazon.de that I can use?
