Build your domotic system

The good thing to start is to get a Nas.
With a nas you can host your own datas. Security DOES matter ;)

On my side : Many Synology (but only one is necessary) with a connected IP camera.
Synology offers 2 Synology surveillance station free licences.

I also use a Netatmo connected thermostat. I can change temperature with my smartphone far away, and with voice at home using Alexa
- 2 connected lights from Xiaomi, connected in Wifi (no bridge needed), I can change light color or dimm with my smartphone and with voice at home using Alexa.

Next step will be connected electrical plugs to manage everything else :)

Where to start...
2 Google home minis
1 Google home
1 Nest Display
2 Lenovo smart diaplays
1 Lenovo smart clock
1 tichome mini
Philips Hue system for my bedroom and living room (no hardwired lights)
Lutron Caseta light switches in every room connected to a wink hub
Smart plugs in every lamp (and coffee maker)
Ismart alarm security system
2 Nest cameras
Ecobee thermostat
2 irobot roombas (wifi enabled)
Harmony hubs
1 Minix T5 (AndroidTV)
1 Minix U9-H (with AndroidTV ROM and TV google assistant)
1 Nvidia Shield (AndroidTV)

I then use a series of Google Assistant routines, built-in app functions and IFTTT integration to create a as much automation as possible.

Automation:
If my security system is armed within a certain time of day, the robot vacuums start.

If I return home before the vacuums complete the cleaning job, the end the job early and return to their base.

If the alarm is triggered, the security cameras start recoeding and uploading videos to the cloud. Otherwise they only record movement locally.

Thw security system is auto armed every night at a specific time, in case I forget to manually do it earlier.

If the alarm is triggered, the siren sounds, the lights in my house turn on and off, I am called, texted and emailed simultaneously.

Motion sensors are used in most the most used areas in the house. They auto turn on lights, based on the time of day and the weather when triggered.

The thermostat has been programmed with a weekly schedule with various settings based on whether we are home, away or sleeping.
Wow ..incredible!

Looking into lighting options currently....

My future objective is one day create a home security system.

The rest for now i am not interessed: like for example calling Alexa to turn off the lights ☺.
One of the reasons is that i live in a old house( we made improvements in the house over the years...)

Actually I've built myself all the iot I use, based mainly on esp8266 or esp32 microcontrollers and a variety of modules. All (lights, power socket, alarm, temperature humidity pressure sensors, heaters,... ) is manageable via embedded secure web pages, api, udp, serial port, mqtt, phone (sms or android app) and upgradable remotely (in a secure way).
Video surveillance is made mainly with a Linux server with motion daemon.
My home file synchro is based on syncthing.

Nice :).
I also have a friend who build from zero a arcade machine (build for older games, very similar to yours), last i time i saw the hardware was from one original XBOX, it is great fun indeed and it was working very well.

Next step (for him) is build a sega rally arcade (with two TVS) :) or a video racing machine (for two users :)).
