How to install CoreELEC on the U22-XJ

Is it normal that my NEO U22-XJ is buggy in COREELEC versus the android KODI version ?

I mean the navigation is a lot less fluid,
there is some flicker when I press the 'Info' button during playback
the mouse is frozing from time to time
the keyboard refuse to react until I press on it around 20 times !!!

COREELEC is supposed to be more fluid than KODI in android so why it is not ?

What are you using for CoreELEC, USB or SD Card? What version of CoreELEC are you using? I have had no problems with CoreELEC on the U22 on both USB and SD Card, extremely smooth so there must be something up with your setup.

I am using CoreELEC lastest version (CoreELEC 9.2.3) with a USB card.
I am using Logitech Wireless keyboard and mouse with the USB transmitter inserted in the first USB 3.0 port (next to the power button)
I choose resolution 3820x2160p at 60HZ.
I use 4-2-2 colour subsampling
I choose to disable GUI scaling ( to let CoreELEC display in real 4K resolution GUI, not scaled to 4K )

Even if I choose to downgrade CoreELEC GUI in 1080p, there still some issues with the flickers when I use the mouse when playing video files.

Have you tried an air-mouse or a wired USB keyboard & mouse?

Same issues or just with the Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard?

Great info thank you, I have everything the same as you except for the Logitech and 4:2:2, having said that I enabled 4:2:2 did a reboot and still I have a fluid experience so I can only assume this must have something to do with the USB thumb drive, is it possible for you to try another? I would strongly suggest waiting for firmware V004 and try with an SD Card as there have been members reporting of various problem with USB, I myself tried seven different USB thumb drives before eventually getting CoreELEC to boot!!

I am happy to report with a manual upgrade of the U22 firmware to V004 (here) and a new install of CoreELEC 9.2.3 (here) booting from SD Card is now working (y)

I just got a brand new SD Card to test coreELEC. Point 5 of the procedure in the first page remains the same to boot from both USB Stick and SD Card?

Yes but sometimes it doesn't work. Tryed it yesterday and no update came event after multiple reboots.
Oh.... mine worked fine
I have mine set to Manual and I just clicked on available versions , selected 9.2.3 and away it went and updated on reboot.

no matter, choose whatever way works best for you :)

I performed several tests with the 3 differents USB 3.0 ports. But the result is the same. CoreELEC doesnt stay fluid very long. I can navigate a litlle bit with the mouse but the keyboard doesnt last more than a couple of pushes. Even If I stay in 1080p, whenener I try to navigate a little bit and try to change some skins, it freeze a little bit and I have to wait couple of seconds or minutes to reload the screen. So I decided to remove the mouse andd the keyboard. I tryed to navigate just with my TV remote only... problems are still the same. So the problem is definitively not the keyboard or mouse.

I will try with another USB stick just to see if works better.

I am very happy to announce that my NEO U22-XJ with firmware V004 and CoreELEC 9.2.3 is FINALLY working as it should !

Now all the problems are down minus the keyboard that doesnt seems to work in the tandem with the mouse. But I can live with it and use another keyboard with a cord.
:)

The problem was the USB stick. I was using KINGSTON Data Traveler 100 16GB. I used another one : Samsung BAR Plus 32GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive and it solved the problem.
