NEO U22-XJ: 005FW (20200826) - Bugtracker [OTA Now Available]

Then i suggest trying a different flash drive or install on an SD card.
I can discern a noticable speed increase in Coreelec over Android
Cheers for the tip, installed it onto the micro sd card & what a difference, at least now I can keep using the U22 instead of going back to the U9.

Hello, just to give feedback, I just did the 5FW update and NO PROBLEMS. I turned OFF the root switch BEFORE I started and let it do it's thing and so far its OK!! I don't particularly need root as I have all the network connectivity working anyways so..there you have if anyone is interested. Cheers

Same here, swings and roundabouts for me with root. I can now use some TV apps that previously detected root (even when it was switched off) but I can't use a couple of little shortcuts I have like the Power Menu app that allowed me to reboot directly to the recovery menu without fiddling around with a pin. BTW I'm not sure why Minix haven't implemented the same system as the U1 where holding the power button for something like 8 seconds boots to recovery?

Anyway ideally they'll find out why while root checker apps said root was off/hidden many apps thought it was a rooted device, fix it and restore the root switch.

given the above your best option for Kodi on the U22 is to use Coreelec, where all audio formats mentioned above work OK .
Best I think to install Corelec on SD card and if you wish to use android simply pop the card out and reboot.
Thanks!!
Will try to run CoreElec from SD card or USB stick. Also keeping my old Minix x8h in case I need android

If your hardware supports it, passthrough should function normally & as expected with DTS (lossy), & DD/DD+ (AC3/e-AC3 respectively).

AAC remains a bit of a grey area, (although technically AAC doesn't use passthrough as it's decoded on the U22 itself first & streamed as PCM), but some still aren't able to successfully stream pre-decoded multichannel AAC audio to their external hardware & it downmixes AAC audio to stereo only instead.

The HD audio formats remain unsupported for passthrough with Android at this time, i.e. TrueHD or DTS:X/DTS-HD MA. Amlogic themselves are required to address this particular issue with the SoC rather than anything MINIX can presently do about it their end.

Keep an eye on the forum for news of future updates, an announcement will no doubt be made when a firmware update is issued to address this particular problem.

(If you're experiencing problems with passthrough & the lossy SD audio formats, then please be more specific, & provide additional details/information.)
Thanks!!
I was talking about the HD formats. Somehow I was convinced they are supported. They worked for me on Minix x8h which is an earlier Amlogic SoC. Also I understood that HD passthrough works on CoreElec so I concluded that the hardware support exists.
Will wait for the upcoming fw updates. Will also try CoreElec

You're welcome :).

If the U22 is your main device, CoreELEC is well worth a try for the time being until the issue has been fully resolved with Android. (Especially given how simple it is to switch between the two OS's.)

I have found a bug that has been reported by others regarding CEC. But please add this to this list regarding my personal system/setup with my soundbar/TV/U9H and U22 connected simultaneously.

1. Setup both boxes with U22 plugged into HDMI 1 as normal using my Sony KD-65X8500D
2. U9h plugged into HDM! 2 and also tried HDMI 3
3. Samsung soundbar plugged into HDMI 4 (ARC)

Chercked Bravia sync settings. All 3 ....U9/U22/soundbar showing as enabled and command sent to all 3 devices. Interestingly enough on the sync settings it showed the U22 connected to HDMI 1 and the soundbar to HDMI 4 (ARC). But shown as "UNKNOWN", whether the U9H was connected to HDMI 2 or 3

Both boxes turned turned on. Play an app on U9H and the sound kept cutting in and out
switched U9h HDMI (2 or 3 depending which one I was using for the experiment) to HDMI 1 to play same app on U22 and again sound kept cutting in and out

Turned off U9H but left HDMI plugged into slot 2 or 3 (HDMI) and the soundbar kept flashing on the display from TV ARC to HDMI
Removed the hdmi cable from either HDM! 2 or 3 on the TV and the U22 played OK.

I then did the reverse using the U9h by removing the HDMI cable from HDMI 1 and played the U9h without an issue.

So even with either box, keeping one of them turned on and one turned off and an hdmi from both boxes plugged into the TV, it created a playback issue.

The final thing is that even with either box turned off but keeping one powered on and the cable plugged into an HDMI slot on the TV; using my samsung remote to adjust the sound level, the box switched apps to another indiscriminately and at random and closed down the app I was watching.

Hope this info is of some use to the devs.

I have the following problem (U22 -> Q90 Soundbar -> Q90 QLED TV)
I have turned off the suspend/sleep mode, theoretically it should never go to suspend mode. Yet when I switch to TV and leave the Minix + Kodi running - I cannot switch back to the U22 after a while. Blue LED shows the device is still running, but cannot provide a picture, no input detected. I tried to configure the power button for restart/suspend/power off/on - but it doesn't help, I cannot bring back the picture in any other way than to remove the power cord from the minix and plug it back and start it again.

Does anyone else has this or similar issue?

Try switching to a different HDMI TV input via your TV remote and then back to the one your soundbar is connected to.

A similar thing happens to me with TV. If I turn on the Minix box first and then the TV, the U22 signal is not detected. The message "no source detected" appears on the TV. Even changing the HDMI source does not change the result. To solve I have to restart the box by disconnecting the power. If instead I turn on the TV first and then the Minix everything works. I also changed HDMI cable but without solving.

I am now running CoreElec from Samsung Bar 32gb USB drive and so far everything works perfectly well including hd audio passthrough. I had one issue though but found a solution. The issue was that u22-xj was going to sleep every now and then with the blue led turning green with the only way to wake it up is by pressing the power button physically. After some trial I realized that u22 goes to sleep when the tv is turned off either through tv remote or tv power button. So I tried the following to no avail: Injecting BL301 blob as suggested by CoreElec installation post; turning off CEC. Nothing of these helped. Finally what did the trick is disabling "Simplink" feature in my LG tv. I believe "Simplink" stands for CEC. So for now I am happy with CoreElec on u22-xj, switching to old x8h when need android

I've had this problem since the start, using a panasonic smart tv, works fine if I turn the box on first without switching to the HDMI source, wait for the box to power up and then switch the source to the U22. If I switch source before powering on the U22 more often than not it will not display the blue glowing minix logo and display as a blank screen. Glad others are reporting this issue too. Too many 'work arounds' already for this product be good to get a proper solution

Yeah but I have the problem sometimes even if I switch to TV or Youtube or to any other app on the TV - and when I want to go back to the Minix - "No source detected" - altough the Minix is still running.

"Too many 'work arounds' already for this product be good to get a proper solution "

- I'm sad about that too - and it's been like this for half a year now. My GF keep saying the U1 was far more better, we should bring it back as keep restarting the minix all the time, and keep the other workarounds in mind all the time is annoying.

I am also very disappointed with this new box ... top performance but many problems. The most serious in my opinion is not being able to use airmouse to scroll in many apps ... therefore unusable. Minix sells an airmouse that is not even usable on its box ... Patience and let's see with the new firmware

PROBLEM 1: - CEC HDMI not working properly:
I have the U22 connected to a LG SL10YG soundbar and a samsung TV when i switch the U22 to suspend mode and then turn on it not detecting the U22 anymore. "no source detected" its not getting out of suspend mode. The Box is not responding to the airmouse. Changing different sources on the soundbar or TV is not helping, I have to pull the plug to get it detected again after startup.
Last version 004 was better than 005 with detecting the HDMI signal.

PROBLEM 2: - Loosing Shorcuts on the minix dashboard:
Everytime i reboot or pull the plug and start up the box i loose the shortcuts icons on the MINIX dashboard. and i have to add them again.

Currently the latest firmware it not reliable.
