Minix T5 beginner problems...

I bought this Minix T5 a few days ago after the old Minix X8-H did not work with newer codecs ...
Because I'm used to the android on the phone, I tried to change its interface, quite hard and I left it alone. I don't use many applications, those for a NAS (DS Video, DLNA), HBO GO, facebook, youtube ...
I have some questions for you:
- why can't I use the mouse when I type on the keyboard? I use the original remote control and a mouse ... It worked for a few days and then it didn't work.
- I can't find the good codes for MX Player (some examples of files: 2160p.WEB.H265, 1080p BluRay 10bit x265 HEVC AAC 5., 2160p Multi 4K UltraHD BluRay HEVC 10 Bits Dolby ATMOS 7.1, 160p 4K UltraHD BluRay x265 HEVC 10 Bits Multi TrueHD 5.1 ....). On the first day I managed to make it work with all the files from outside the network, after that I reset it and it didn't work anymore. I installed various custom codecs but I couldn't make it work.
- I installed some launchers (Microsoft Launcher, Nova Launcher) but I didn't manage to customize it, the bottom bar was on the right ...
I decided to leave it with the Android TV interface and use what interests me most, to use the media content from NAS, HBO Go and Youtube.
Thank you in advance!

AndroidTV devices, unlike boxes running pure Android, use a 10-foot interface that google calls leanback. This tv interface is designed in a way where a mouse is not needed. The mouse will not work with the default leanback keyboard. If you want to use the air mouse, change the default keyboard to one that accepts mouse keypresses.

I don't think you'll find many in the play store, but you can find most on the aptoide tv store, if you're comfortable sideloading apps. https://tv.aptoide.com/

Official AndroidTV devices do not allow you to change the default launcher by simply installing an alternative launcher. However,if you're comfortable with ADB, you can easily get around that limitation.

I actually installed the new Chromecast with Google TV launcher on my T5.

Thank you for the tips!
I discovered Kodi, i manage to view all the movies. But i have a problem with subtitles, kodi never load subtitle file from the directory where are the movies...
How is with the google tv launcher?

They have the same name, i check many time. I use kodi 18.9 Leia
I try video calibration and grab the subtitle in position, no luck.
I connect to NAS from kodi with uPnP protocol, maybe need to change to other type of connection: webdav, ftp, smb...

SMB works well :)

I use a wireless router for my network and all.my devices have internet from the router. For using SMB need to port forwarding and what port?

What kind of subtitles do you use ? SRT ?
No problems here with Kodi and external subtitles.

I will try later and come back to tell you.
Everytime when download subtitle i copy name of movie file to srt file.

When i try "load subtitle" in the movie and browse the directory where is the movie, i do not see srt file, only movie file....

No need to "load" the subtitle if the name is correct, you just have to activate it in options when you play the movie.

looking at the video file name you mentioned ;) are you aware that most of these types of video files already contain the subtitles. You Just need to enable them in Kodi .

Whenever I've required a separate .SRT file for movie subs I've needed to add the additional extension .en to the .srt filenames or Kodi doesn't see them. (This is regardless of where the subs are stored & .en is obviously for English subs so you may require a different 2 letter code for subs in an alternate language.)

Examples.....

Movie name

John Wick (2014).mkv

.SRT subtitle naming convention

John Wick (2014).en.mkv <-- OOOPS!!! (That was obviously an error that I just spotted, it should be .SRT, not .MKV :oops:. Correction..

John Wick (2014).en.srt

.SRT files are supposed to work if named identically & stored in the same directory as the movie but I've never got them to work without adding .en for external English subs. Add the .en extension, they then work perfectly.

Give it a try & see if your external subs then become available & don't forget you may need a separate 2 letter code for other languages such as .es (Spanish), .it (Italian), .fr (French), & so on.

I try to change name, i added ".en" and it worked for 1 movie. The subtitle was on the top of the movie. I changed the position and it was ok.
Try to change name for another movie but no luck... Again no subtitle.
There are a lot of setting in kodi language options: position, language.... I think is a problem with a setting, but a can't find what setting. Maybe need to be same country in language setting with name added in the name of subtitle, english - ".en", french - ".fr"?
Maybe need to unninstal/install kodi and start from zero. Now i'm going to work so i will try another type of connection from outside of my network.

Well, at least it worked for one file so that's some progress made in the right direction.

What language are your subtitle files? Yes, if you've specifically set Kodi to use a "preferred subtitle language" then you'll need to use the correct 2 letter code at the end of the filenames or the subs may not be recognised or correctly sync. (You could briefly try setting the preferred language to none for testing & see if that changes anything.)

The subtitle text positioning, text size, text colour, etc. as per Kodi's settings shouldn't have any bearing on this problem & they're obviously working as you've seen them.

Are you absolutely sure the filenames of both the movie & .SRT file are otherwise identical too? (It's very easy to miss an accidental double space or double dash if you manually type the filenames separately, for example.)

(Whenever I'm renaming a .SRT file I directly copy the movie filename & paste that in, & then just add the .en extension as previously discussed.)

Additionally, are you sourcing subtitle files that subtitle entire movies or just partial subs for small sections of dialogue you don't understand? (I ask because if you don't source the exact & correct .SRT file for the exact copy or even the correct frame rate of your media, then the subs may actually be working, you're just not seeing them at the correct time if they're several minutes out of sync before stopping the movie & assuming they're not working.)

If you don't encode your movies from your discs with the original subs it can sometimes be very tricky to get the exact .SRT file you need later on, if at all in some cases. (Especially if it's an extended version of a movie, a theatrical cut, a special edition, etc. that obviously won't match the timings of a straightforward director's cut.) Subs that are just 4 or 5 seconds out of sync at the start of a movie could end up several minutes out of sync further along. Finding the correct .SRT files is not a guaranteed process, just a very useful one, but it can often take some extra digging around.

Another way you can check is to open the .SRT files with a basic text editor to look at the display timings & then check your movie to make sure the timings would definitely be matched/synchronised.

2160p.WEB.H265, 1080p BluRay 10bit x265 HEVC AAC 5., 2160p Multi 4K UltraHD BluRay HEVC 10 Bits Dolby ATMOS 7.1, 160p 4K UltraHD BluRay x265 HEVC 10 Bits Multi TrueHD 5.1 ...

he's not encoding his movies ;)
and it would be a sure bet the subititles are already embedded in the files
