Any benefits of using new KODI 19 Matrix vs the 18.9 Leia version on U22

Hello All,
Learnt a lot from these forums. So just wanted to post this question, to see if anyone used Kodi 19.0 and the associated benefits you may have noticed compared to its previous version?
My FOTA version is V006a_20210203-1459, and I installed the kodi-19.0-matrix-armeabi-v7a.apk (stable) version.

Also, did anyone install the x64 version -v8a.apk on the u22? I searched but was not able to find it on the Android Installer Add on.

Thanks,
P

One downside of updating to 19.0 on any device at the moment is that a number of (legal) addons have been broken by the changes made e.g. BBC iPlayer. So, you may at present not get the functionality you previously had until addon developers update their addons to be compatible.

Give it some time, when you really need you upgrade (i noticed now that you already updated :)).

Yes, some previous addons don´t work with kodi 19 (until developers update to have compatibility)

ARMV7A (32BIT) is the version you must install.

However my mariadb server is now with kodi 19 database tables and i am using on all my clients (windows and android) :).
I like to test and there are new features on kodi 19 and fixes of course (but there are still bugs that i already found).

Take a look at this:

Edited:
My opinion:
Stay with that current kodi 19 version you already installed (sooner or later you could be forced to update :))

Thanks for your responses. Yes, that is what I intend to do.

19.0 in its present form still offers some benefits, like decoding AV1 codec, and offers the option of DTS-HD passthrough audio under the expert audio settings, although I'm skeptical about this (haven't tested this yet).

I also noticed that it allowed DD+/Atmos passthrough so EAC3 was working perfectly.

I think the add-ons would work once the respective developers re-code them on <python 3.5.

Thanks,
P

Update: In my KODI 19.0 install, AV1 videos (1080p res) are playing sluggishly with frame skipping. Anyone able to play them without issues? If so, what settings do I use to prevent the frame-skip?

No, same here, this is a sofware decode and the Soc is not powerfull enough to handle HD movies.

BTW i juste tested with last Coreelec Matrix on U22 and it's really better ! I could read 1080p 30fps AV1 files with near perfect smoothness.

The SoC does have the performance to software decode AV1 files at HD resolutions, and possibly higher resolutions as the dav1d AV1 decoder library improves. It's just the combination of kodi for android including a slightly older / less optimized version of the the decoder library, and the overhead of android itself that makes it's performance a little lower then desired.

CoreELEC has supported Software AV1 decoding since the 9.2.x builds with Kodi Leia, and the majority of 1080p content(the exception being some higher bandwidth 10bit files.) should play smoothly with a recent CoreELEC build on the U22. I try to keep this feature as up to date as possible since the dav1d AV1 decoder developers keep making impressive improvements with each new version.

Thanks for the complete information about it.

After the auto update to Kodi 19, most of my mkv show a blurred image upon video play. I tried adjusting different refresh rates but no success. This never happened with the previous version of Kodi. Any ideas on how to fix?5E17C4A7-74B4-4CA4-B72E-D3045B14AF04.jpeg

nothing obviously wrong there other than the delay setting which only needs to be a second or so, if that

best to turn off auto updates and go back to 18.9 i reckon

Kodi 19 stable is Working great for me with videos (tv shows, movies, etc... ) streaming from my NAS.

You can try this:
-New kodi 19 installation... (be aware of data lost, do a backup first ...).
-another option is locate your kodi app and clean data

Maybe you changed many settings with previous kodi 18.9 and it is not working well.

Note:
I am using kodi 19 but without:
-Database migration
-add-on migration

I only saved advancedsettings.xml and other files (i use mariadb10 server) but i did a new database scan (from scratch) because i found some issues with kodi database migration (from v18 to v19).

-Please tell us more details:
1-This happen only with kodi?
I see that in kodi (menu display) the image is also not good
2-What firmware (U22-XJ) are you using ?
Official (latest) non rooted firmware ?
https://theminixforum.com/index.php...w-20210203-bugtracker-ota-now-available.3722/
3-When did you update the firmware?
4-Did you check HDMI cable ?
5-Is your TV with the latest firmware?
6-Is your TV working well with other devices?

A blurred image is not normal, never happened to me.
