ROM size

Given that the average size of a 4k movie torrent is around 100 Gigs, would my u9-h be considered inadequate at 2 gigs ram, and 16 gigs. rom?

It's not a good way to stock enormous files in U9-h, consider buying a nas or at least an external HDD.
U9-h can play this kind of files easily.

To clarify, I don't stock/store movies. I stream. But even streaming requires space. particularily torrents. I also understand that the u9 ports at 2.0 hdmi. A 2.0 hdmi cable is good for about 18 to 20 gigs per second. A 2.1 hdmi cable is capable of almost 50 gigs per second.

I assume you are referring to streaming via Kodi so I would say you could get away with it, don't hold me to it though. What you need to do its manage the cache by creating an advanced settings file:
https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache

As the article points out, your connection speed is more important here rather than the size of your RAM or eMMC, play around and find what suits you.

Kodi manages torrents in the same way it would a direct file link (y)

I used the u9-h many years to stream with Kodi all kind of files including 4K HDR movies @23,973 fps without any issue.

Here you can download many files to try different bitrates on your device : https://jell.yfish.us/

Stop worrying, your U9-H will be good for quite a while yet

.....In addition, can your broadband or even your LAN get anywhere near the speed of HDMI 2.0 A/B anyway, let alone HDMI 2.1 if you're streaming?

No!!! Then what's your concern over your existing hardware being unable to keep up?

When your broadband is somewhere near 18 gbps (again let alone even 48 gbps), then worry about your local hardware & HDMI!!!

Didn't we cover this before when you upgraded your broadband to 75mbps which is ultimately your bottleneck & always will be as far as streaming from online sources is concerned ;)??? ( https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/u9-h-locked-up-last-night.4138/page-2#post-35335 )
