Firmware

After reviewing the factory release, I've noticed two major bugs (details below) and I was wondering if anyone here can share the original firmware so I can try tweaking it.

# Kernal version: 4.19.219
# August 31 2022 (release-keys)
# Model X-35i RK3566

Bugs:
1. the screen goes blank/black when opening the notification bar from the top-left or top-right corners; works fine from top-center.
2. The wifi toggle is not persistent; rebooting the device “fixed” the problem.

Thank you for that information.

I already downloaded the file but i am unable to update the device: (i followed the included instructions)
The instructions were modified and original made for MINIX X39.

We need new instructions (or maybe another PC, USB 2.0 port...?) to update the firmware.
I tested several times and i had always the same result.

My current firmware: (never updated before)
X35-I Android_11-V001-eng root 20220309

At least now i know how to enter recovery mode: :)
-"....Press the RECOVERY and POWER button on NEO X35-I at the same time for a couple of seconds and then release both buttons"

Notes:
-Please view Attached files
-i used the same PC (J50C-4 MAX with windows 11 Pro 22H2) when i recently flashed X39 (using the same tools)
-i will try later with a different PC

Updated! (y)

Only thing I had to do was reinstall the Driver Assistant.

Before the Upgrade it said, "Found One LOADER Device"
After the Upgrade it switched to, "No Devices Found"

I didn't disconnect the USB cable, the status switched to, "Found One ADB Device"
This is because the X35-i boots in to Android after the Upgrade!

Yesterday i also reinstalled the driver assistant and it did not work for me ?.

Something went wrong.... (worked just fine for X39).

Edited:
I will try flash later with NGC-5 (but this device has USB 3.1) .
Out of curiosity @Villa can you please say the windows PC specs that you used to update the firmware?

Did you use USB 2.0 port?
Software - You used Windows 11 Pro 22H2 ?

Other note:
I also changed the USB 3.0 port but i had the same result.

Used J50C-4 USB3 Windows 10.
Used a random cable that was lying around.

Have you changed any of the X35 settings?
If so, try a factory reset first.

Yes i changed some X35 settings and i tested several things.

Good idea thank you.
I will try factory reset first.
I used the minix cable that came with the device (X35-i).

I went to X35-i settings :
-i turned on OTG mode setting (connect to PC)
-just in case i also turned on ADBenable

Please view Attached files:
1-i used again the same tool and the same windows PC (J50C-4 max)
2-Tab upgrade firmware:
i used first option firmware (to load the firmware) and then i clicked upgrade
(erase flash option was not needed)

Notes:
-no factory reset was needed.
-The problem was MINIX default settings (i must say i did not change that particular connection settings).

Now my X35-i has Android_11-V003-ROOT-20220706.

I will test this version. Thank you :)

Those are on by default!

-The problem was MINIX default settings (i must say i did not change that particular connection settings).
That's odd because they were On for me in V001.
I actually tried switching them when at first the device could not connect with the burn tool.

It was only then that I tried reinstall of Driver Assistant.

(updating the information)
-The problem was MINIX settings

I think an update/modification should be done in the firmware instructions (besides there are images of the X39).

I made a factory reset and yes by default the connection settings are on, i must have turned off to test and got confused

It makes no difference.
If either or both of those settings are disabled the device is still recognised and will flash successfully! (y)

Ok. When i updated sucessfully the firmware i changed these settings:
View attached files

Anyway by default the settings are already enable but i think it is a good idea to update (the firmware instructions) and mention that we should check if we have those options enable.

I am writing my feedback (about this V003 firmware and i will post here).
I also need time to test the stabilty of the ROM.

ROM tested: X35-I V003-eng root 20220706
Monitor tested LG 22MK600M

System:

Hi guys, Here are my first comments/tests with this ROM.
-the device booted ok, but just in case I did a factory reset to test things properly
-I don´t like this device launcher (quickstep), i prefer the minix metro launcher (of course my top preference is ATV launcher and the experience using Android TV
-IR (new included remote control), old IR, A3 backlit remote controls are working ok.
A3 backlit settings key now work
-restarts, sleep and power off works well
-auto switch to best resolution works well
-Screen resolution is working well
-screen rotation ok
-power top menu - power off, restart ok
-bottom bar ok
-screenshot bottom bar works ok (i can see the screenshots taken before)
-One press and long press with power button are working well.
-power key definition ok
-the device wakes well from sleep/shutdown
I also can use the IR power button to wake the device from sleep/shutdown mode
-sleep after xxx time works well
But i have to press power button to wake the device again (i believe with other device such as U22-XJ i can press any key and the device wake from sleep mode)
-Wifi, bluetooth
Wifi - connected to my ISP wifi 5 router (5GHZ) without problems
Bluetooth - i was able to pair with my galaxy A50 but I was unable to send files, I also think the device name should be renamed to X35-I (by default)
-System bar - ok
-install unknown apps ok
-screen saver ok
-System sound is working well
-I can use the IR remote control volume (+-) to change the sound and now there is information on the GUI
-screen time out ok
-reset options (factory reset) works fine

APPS:

I was able to login into playstore

Apps installed from playstore:
I installed x-plore and from this installation I accessed my home network and tested/installed some apps
-youtube from playstore is working but i don't like it , i prefer ATV version

Apps installed from LAN:
-YouTube for androidtv v2.07.02 is working ok and i can use my google account (to view my subscriptions, history, etc)
-x-plore file manager is working
I was able to scan my LAN, search for my NAS , acess its content.
I can copy files between server and internal storage but the problem is:
I am unable to copy/overwrite files to userdata (kodi location): (i have kodi savings and settings with MYSQL)
Error : failed writing to file
Same problem as ROM V001
-speedtest (Ookla) - ok
-accuweather is working well

Other apps:
-chrome works (only quick check because i don´t use browser with minix android devices) but I am unable to sync with my google acccount
-pre installed default and files apps are working
- clock ok
-gallery ok

Some Bugs:
-ethernet is not working (I can´t get an ip adress, DHCP mode, did not test static)
I believe this is a major bug (it was working on firmware V001)
-the device is not a tablet or a phone, some options/settings still must be renamed and removed
-navigation with the X35-I menus (GUI) only works (more or less) with the addition of a mouse/keyboard (or airmouse)

Next days : I will test the stability of the ROM
-kodi - more video playback(i had to manually add video sources which i don´t like it)
For the moment it seems stable (But i am not using advanced settings and other files as i mentioned before)
-youtube ATV
I will test more video playback

Comments:
-The device is small and has good quality but of course i use minix media hubs as media playback (this particular device is intended for industrial usage)
-I think it will be nice to have both launchers in the next firmware:
quickstep, minix metro (optimized for this device, I tested minix metro apk from X39 and worked (more or less…)
-I will continue to test this device and some video playback
-For this test i only used WIFI (i always prefer to use wired connection).
Some of the features of the ROM can not be tested without ethernet (example WOL)

Please view Attached files: (WIFI and ethernet)

Ethernet working for me!

One issue I do have is airmouse dongle needs to be in the USB3 port.
In the other ports it may work briefly. Then need to restart device or replug.

I will test again this 003 version.

@pusb87 please test ethernet and give your feedback (working or not).

V003 firmware:

ethernet still does not work for me : (what i did)
-factory reset
-flashed again the V003 firmware
-tested with three RJ45 cables (that i know are working)
-connected X35-i to ISP router (which is working great with all my other devices)

ok:
I don´t know what is the problem (wifi still works fine, i tested again)

Notes: (related to ethernet)
-It is stange that V003 is working fine for @Villa and @pusb87 and not for me
-i tested before 001 firmware and Ethernet is working

if you havent already try turning wifi off in x35 settings, reboot and then try ethernet

i didnt do any factory resets, just flashed the v003 firmware using the tools supplied with the firmware image on a win 10 laptop
