Compatible SSD and RAM for NEO N42C-4

Yes but sometimes you can mix different sort of ram capacity. It's the case in half my PCs :)
Yes. Thats why i asked that question of BIOS UPGRADE in N42C-4.
I have one old laptop with mixed RAM and i think i had other previous machines with that also :)

Add:
KUESUNY 16GB Kit (8GBX2) DDR3L-1600 Sodimm RAM, PC3L-12800/PC3L-12800s Memory 204 Pin 1.35V/1.5V CL11 Non-ECC Unbuffered
to the RAM list. Tested and working fine.

To add to the list if it helps :).

I've been running a 16GB (2 x 8GB) Crucial RAM kit in my N42C-4 for the past 9 months. Works perfectly:).

Specifics.

Crucial CT2KIT102464BF160B 16GB kit SODIMM, DDR3L, 1600 MT/s, PC3L - 12800.

Is there some kind of setting in the BIOS i need to adjust to make this work? I installed one 8gb module and even though it appeared to work, Windows became unreliable with occasional bsod and freezing. Eventually my Minix wouldn't even start. I would press the power button and the fan would spin up for less than a second and then turn off. The only way i could remedy this would be to pull the power supply for a period of time and then it would eventually start up. I also noticed that the restart function became completely useless, it would just hang instead. Eventually i removed the new RAM and replaced it with the original one. The system returned to normal. I'm beginning to consider the RAM may be faulty?

Now i have 2 modules of 8gb memory RAM and of the same brand.
In order to work i have to do this:
-remove the original 4GB ram and install the other two .

Minix N42C-4 dont work with different RAM sizes (example one of 4GB and another of 8gb) and probably with different RAM brand.

If you bought just one module of 8GB you have only one option: stay with original memory (4GB ) or insert the new one.

You dont have to do nothing to the bios.

At least for now thats how minix works (unless in the future a bios update) that allow the device to have different RAM sizes.

Read all previous posts.

Is your RAM module definitely on the list of compatible RAM? (I'm assuming it is & that you got a single 8GB Crucial module if you're quoting my post?)

Certainly sounds like a faulty module if removing it & replacing it with the original resolves the problems you experienced :(!! Organise a return/replacement :).

@ramraid You have to be sure of this :

Memory: (this is the memory that is compatible)
DDR3L X SODIMM SLOT dual channel support [each support up to 8GB]

Check this link: (specs)
http://www.minix.us/products/N42C-4.html

It must be DDR3L (LOW VOLTAGE) (this is very important)

I bought the second module (by mistake) a DDR3 RAM and it did not work (i had to change to DD3L)

If the memory is right then it must work, unless is faulty.

Now my memory is :
SO-DIMM G.SKILL Ripjaws kit 16GB DDR3L 1600mhz CL9 CT51264BF160BJ - (2 equals modules)

I’m sure my RAM is the same as ArcticWolf’s. It has the same model number and it definitely says DDR3L on the sticker. I tried to upload a photo of it but it’s not working on my phone.

I’ll get it replaced and eliminate that as the problem. Thanks for the replies. I’ll keep this thread up to date (y)

Added new SSD in compatibility list

WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, M.2 2280, Up to 560 MB/s - WDS500G2B0B

If you're reading this, I highly recommend upgrading to 8x2 = 16 GB of RAM. The N42C-4 feels like a completely different computer.

I also wanted to comment that I am using a Corsair CMSO8GX3M1C1600C11 RAM and it works completely fine.

Thanks for confirming the compatibility.

Hi anyone successfully upgraded the eMMC drive on the N42 ?

I see several people have had compatibility problems with the SSD upgrades, I tried this Kingston without success (A400 SSD (SA400M8/480G) 480GB M.2 SATA 2280) it upgraded OK from the recovery USB and I could switch to c:\ when I dropped to cmd prompt and see the files but the drive would not appear in the boot list. I've returned am am trying a WD (WDS500G2B0B WD Blue 3D NAND Internal SSD M.2 SATA, 500 GB)
