Is there a libreelec for dummies?

@Paraprop i think you have dual boot, i saw a youtube video and we can have dual boot:
- if you boot from usb you have coreelec
- if you boot from eMMC you have normal android.

We can have the possibility as far as i know to install coreelec on internal storage, but don't do that for now, stay with dual boot.

@Paraprop

I dont think theres really any need to use another OS over android as Kodi works absolutely fine on the U9 with Stock FW008

Providing you have a compatible AVR, passthrough works fine for the audio options you have listed, and Im sure that HDR works fine to.

Follow this guide for your audio settings using Kodi 18.4 >>> https://kodi.wiki/view/Audio_quickstart_guide

@ArcticWolf may be able to offer best settings for HDR using a 4K HDR TV on your Minix u9

Nothing special required with the stock Android firmware for HDR & 4K Just set the resolution to 4K@60 & turn the HDR option to auto in the U9-H's settings. The device handles the rest. Looks absolutely incredible :).

All my files are Atmos source, and they were working - now its just dolby surround, not Atmos.
I can't modify the passthrough at all - i can click audio passthrough on and off, but turning it on doesn't do anything.

I'm an idiot about the subtitles, i've turned them on and off a hundred times with kodi :)
As far as sound: My Atmos is gone but all my speakers are active including my 4 Atmos speakers. It dosn't say Atmos on my receiver anymore, just Dolby Surround. I cannot scroll to find Atmos either, again its gone.

This is the problem with jumping around different OS's without properly researching them beforehand or understanding the basics. There may be additional configuration required to allow all passthrough options in Kodi with CORE/LibreELEC.

@Skynet may have some additional info but Google is your best bet ;)!

Which settings do i change to optimize in kodi?
I notice my Atmos is gone. The "allow audio passthrough" is checked but not Atmos is audio is coming out anymore. I use to have a bunch of audio options i could check (DTS DH, Dolby True Audio, dolby Atmos etc).
How do i get that back?

I went to Audio and even tried to change the audio output device from all the options (Alsa PCM, ALSA HDMI etc) i went through all of them and turned the passthrough on and off and nothing...

Edit- other issue is i now have subtitles - i can't seem to turn them off.

We already have a CoreElec thread here ;)

About passthrough just select 2 channels in Kodi setting then activate passthroug and select all options your amplifier is capable of. That's all.

There's a bug with the number of channels, keep it at 2.

Sorry that's the issue - it doesn't give me any options anymore...
No matter what setting and allowing pass through - before it would give me all the options, now it won't.

What was the problem with the stock MINIX firmware that you needed to change to CoreELEC or LibreELEC?
Absolutely nothing to be honest! I thought i read using corelec was better. I'm not sure why i did it :) The U9 on its own looks and fantastic with movies - this is my 3rd Minix.
I'm ok with quickly switching it to 4K or 1080p (and changing the 4K Chroma to 4.2.2 10 bit)- i've been doing it for years.

LOL, seriously, in your instance I would stick with the stock firmware bud ;)!!

There's really no reason for you to switch to another OS, especially without fully researching the pros & cons first.

You don't have to keep switching the resolution. Leave the U9-H in 4k@60 with 4:2:2, play your 1080p movies & see what you think. Yes, the U9-H is doing the upscaling instead & your TV can undoubtedly do a better job of upscaling 1080p to 4K, but the question is can you actually see that difference?

Try both methods, repeat both with the same movie or same sections of different movies you know well & see if you actually need to keep changing the resolution ;)!!??!!??!?

My AVR supports Atmos - and all my files are Atmos. I have a pretty fantastic surround system with 4 ceiling Atmos speakers. I had Atmos and now i can only get dolby surround. I've changed all the settings in Audio and allow passthrough - does Atmos work with coreelec?
Yes i have an HDR TV - i have a Sony 65A1E which i paid a small fortune for last year (thanks god my wife said yes!) ($7,000.00 Canadian) :)
[my setup]

Love your AVR

Advantage i guess for you using coreelec:
- you now know how to install and if it works well. Points in experience ?.

I installed a few linux versions and now i know how it works.

We gain that ☺

Done! I was bored last night and reading the forums to see if i could improve any A/V quality and starting to read about Libre. If there is no benifit of my use with Core - its off. I just unplugged my USB (Core) and i have Atmos again.

Hi, I own a Minix Neo U9-H

I know that it is 64 bits an octo core

I have installed the community ROM but honestly I do not see so much performance

So if I install LibreElec or similar permanently in the box do you think I will see more performance?

If so can you point me to the instruction for a permanent install in the box ?

thanks

Regis
