A3 remote working but won't turn box on

Once the device has booted, I've found that using the "fly mode" button to wake the A3 or A3 backlit avoids the issue of sending an otherwise undesired command. Sometimes you may just need to press the fly mode button a second time depending on whether the A3/A3 backlit have entered their respective standby/power saving modes or not.
Yes but kinda defeats the usefulness of the backlight having to know in the dark where the flymode button is !!
It would be so much better if the backlight could be activated by a gyro movement....or a light sensor + gyro :geek:

Anyway going a bit off topic so lets leave it there...
PS Don, i replied to you re RD

My A3 light always had that. Powering up the box always takes 4 fast button presses. I actually thought it was some kind of safety feature. Does it with all my Minix boxes, so it is not a U9-H nor U1 related issue, as they all start at first pressing with any of the A2 Lites. I'm good with it. It is not a faulty contact neither as it works on first press for standby mode.

Hi all,

i have the exact same issue now with A3 backlit. The remote works fine, but does not turn on neither the U22 nor the U9 box i have. Power off works, and it can put the device in sleep and bring it back from sleep, but if the device is off, it does not turn it on.

I have an old A2, and that powers on both the U9 and the U22 without any issues.

I have requested a replacement of the A3, and the second one does exactly the same. It works fine, but does not powers on neither of my boxes.

Any idea what can I do or try?

Thx in advance for any ideas!

I got one of those (normally I use an A2 Lite), the time I dealt with the A3 Backlit in a solid basis I used to turn either the U9-H or the U22 by pressing the power button 4 times in a fast sequence. I got so used to it that it became an automatic gesture. Pressing the button in the box is also fine, so I never really worried much about it.

EDITED: (sorry, just now I realised I had talked about it in this same thread already)

Does that solution not work for you?

saw your earlier comment with the 4 rapid press, tried it already, doesn't work :)

well, it is not the end of the word, but very annoying. This is a basic feature, and it is a comfort feature, so i want it to work :)

I'm afraid this is a no brainer, you have received another lemon. You have confirmed the A2 Lite switches both units on, I assume you have tried the stock remote and that can turn both on. I can confirm I have my U9 and U22 side by side and both power on and off with the A3 Backlit, at the same time I might add. Send it back but put an inconspicuous mark somewhere in the battery compartment to make sure they are not simply returning the same one to you.

Hi all,

I have an older A3 which works fine with my MINIX UH-9 box, and decided to order another one as gift for a friend.

Just got this A3 backlit from MINIX, via Amazon, and noticed it cannot power on the box.
Pressing the power button 3 to 20 (!!!) times powers on the box ...sometimes. Definitely not good!

"Lemon" A3 remotes are not new to me:
- the original A3 that came with the UH-9 box stopped working after only a few months, but the replacement they sent is fine.
- the Quality Control they do at the factory seems very poor if 2 out of 3 MINIX remotes I've received were defective

I've sent it back :(

I wonder: does anyone at MINIX read this forum to learn about these issues?

Thank you,
Bradut

You can check IR remotes with the camera on some phones. Open your camera app. Aim the IR blaster of a known good (TV, Car stereo, Etc) IR remote and press a button that pulses an IR signal (the power button is the only IR button on A2/A3 remotes) while watching the camera preview. On my camera IR appears as a white flash with a purple aura. Once you've confirmed your camera is sensitive to IR light you can check other remotes. I use this to troubleshoot IR remotes.

Nice tip. I recall the first time I saw it mentioned it didn't work with some IPhones, and since it also seems some Android phones also have the same type of IR filter that will make that test fail as well. So, when in doubt, you can use a remote that you are certain to be working to test, prior to testing the one you really need to check. One of the several cameras of the modern phones should be able to perform that anyway.

that is actually a good point. Haven't tried with the stock remote (forgot that there is one :) ).
but now I did try, and turns both the u9 and the u22 on without any issues, so it must be the controller.

Thx for the tip!

I have the same problem of Clare. Can not turn on the new U22-XJ box from shutdown with my new A3 backlite remote. Can wake the device from sleep mode but not from shutdown mode.

It is really frustrating reading posts like yours with so little given information. I say frustrating because all the info is posted above so I am at a loss as to what you are trying to accomplish with your post?

I assume you have tried the stock remote and if that works then return your A3 backlit as it is faulty. If the stock remote also fails to power on then it is the U22 that is faulty.

I think you are being a bit unfair.
@stremioantonioslb post looks perfectly reasonable and understandable to me .

They are simply stating that their A3 remote does not seem to be functioning correctly, something I also have posted about here.

It clearly is an issue for some that should rightly be bought to Minix attention.

No need for apologies Marty.
I think i was clear, but let me try once more.
With the box on, if i click the remote power button the box turns off. Now, with the box off, if i click again, even 10 or 20 times in a row, the box remains off, it does not turn on again, never. To turn it on l have to go to the box and press its power button. On sleep mode, the remote power button works both turning on and off. On shutdown mode, it only works to turn it off, the turn on function doesn't work. Hope this can be easier. Thanks for your concern anyway.

New arrived and working fine. Old one must be faulty so will be on its way back today. Thanks for all the help.
Hi ClareW
I have the same problem as you with my new A3 backlit remote. Power button only turns the box off, turning on function does not work. How did you get the new one, what did you do? I bought mine on Aliexpress Minix Oficial Store. Until now i never returned any product, how can i get a new one like you did?
Thank you so much
