Adding external memory

this has probably been asked, discussed and put to bed over and over.... but, for some reason, I"ve not been able to dig it up.... so, here is my question. I have several Minix U1 media boxes and I"m super pleased with them.. .but it has come to a point where if I try to add an applications I have to remove an application.... so I was wondering would adding a 32 or 64GB memory card help... and if so, what can I actually do with it. I've never downloaded on the unit, only use it to watch and stream... I am connected to my NAS for storage... So, by adding a memory card is that my best option?

I guess the next question would be what would be the next step up in Android boxes and what will it give me over what I already have?

You can add a SD card to the U1 to increase the storage up to 256 GB max according to MINIX

files etc can be stored on the Sd card to help free up space!

The U1 is still a solid performer, some will say......MINIX's best to date!

If you're looking to upgrade however and add some future proof, I'd suggest looking at this.......

Midnight, thank you very much for the reply and information. When you talk about files, your probably saying Video, Photos, Music and not applicators... and I guess I was thinking if I wanted to add more applications... I am using Kodi along with a bunch of other stuff... and just wondered if I wanted to add more ....

I have been very happy with my Minix U1 devices I have 3 of them all connected on a home network with lots of NAS storage and it works flawlessly!

I have seen the U22 and it look interesting... but I may wait for the updates to settle down some. Is it going to be alot faster than the U1? And will it take more applications if I want... I like to tinker with new toys... so I may splurge for a u22 to play with soon.

Apps do not get installed to external storage.
One would have to use something like AppMgr III (App 2 SD). Even then I believe it is limited!

@davidki My question is how many apps are you using?
Do you also use Kodi and has that taken up a lot of the space?
Villa, Yep I use Kodi as my interface... I just might have to order up a u22 if the firmware settles down a bit.

Well, I need a little more help... I was wondering since this unit has 2 USB ports, can I just use a memory stick in the side of the unit and download files to that memory.. then take it out to play or look at the files on a notebook or desktop... Im slowly learning :)

Yes, you can use USB memory sticks or external HDD's if you wish :).

Thanks Actic Wolf.. On the USB memory stick or HDD, what format do they need to be in? I read somewhere it is exfat but I"m not sure .. .I am using windows 10 on my notebook so am not sure if I can format it exfat.

is there a guide anywhere that shows how to down load files and store them on the external memory.. .I went to do that but could not seem to make it work for some reason...

OK... so I hunted around a bit and found some instructions... at this point it seems like I am up and running... Sorry for all the confusion... reading through multiple posts gets a bit confusing due to program updates and Kodi -MX player versions... but got it and hopefully that will fix my issues.. Thanks

No need to apologise!! The guys are all here to help :).

Glad you're making progress. Google (or any search engine for that matter) are powerful resources so make good use of them ;)!! If there's something you're not sure about there'll usually be an explanation, tutorial or how to about your enquiry somewhere online.

Enjoy.
