List of compatible DDR4 and M.2 2280 SATA III SSD

I hope I did not miss this information in this thread. I purchased my J50C-4 from Minix's Amazon storefront.
In the description, "...The 2280 M.2 slot [SATA 6.0Gbps], support to storage expansion up to 1TB"
Can someone confirm this to be the case? I have read elsewhere the max storage capacity supported is 512GB.

I've see this conflicting information too!

Sorry I'm not able to confirm it other than to say on the official MINIX website it states 512GB (FYI You have a typo 512MB :ROFLMAO:)

Please follow the information on the official spec sheet [512GB] and we recommend purchasing from the verified compatibility list on the first page of this thread.

Hi Guys. I have just bought the Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/S (PC4-19200) SR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory CT2K8G4SFS824A for the J50C-4 will let you know as well if all works ok.

Installed Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB without any problems. Cloned the eMMC to that using Samsung's Data Migration tool and now using the eMMC for storage. Thought I would have to adjust BIOS settings but it booted up from the SSD without me changing anything. The eMMC was then offline so I used Windows Disk Management to renable it then format it.

Used CrystalDiskMark to speed test:

eMMC read 317.51 MB/s - write 191.69 MB/s
SSD read 562.86 MB/s - write 523.24 MB/s

Bought 2 pcs of Crucial 8gb ram CT8G4SF824 DDR4 2400. Inserted ram but it hangs at the Minix startup Logo. Go into BIOS and saw that the 8gbx2 ram were recognized. Then decided to update to the latest BIOS 0.15. Then Windows booted OK. Now got 16gb ram and things are snappier. Installed Bluestacks as well. Runs well.

Dear friends,
I am new at the forum, I am happy to meet you!
I just bought J50C-4 NEO and set it up with a touch screen, in order to read the scores at my piano.
I would like to kindly ask a few questions:
1) I bought an M.2 SSD disk (WD BLUE WDS500G2B0B) that is listed here as user-tested and compatible. However, there are some posts in the forum that mention WD BLUE as "not seen" by BIOS. Can you verify that it is compatible, so I do not open my J50 for nothing?
2) I also bought an 8GB PC4-2400 SODIMM (KVR24S17S8/8). I understand that the device has 2 slots, one being occupied by a 4GB module. Will it be OK to add the new one to the empty slot and get 8+4=12 GB, or both have to be identical?
3) If everything is OK and J50 sees new SSD and memory, I plan to disable eMMC and install win10 image on the new SSD. Apart from the audio driver, will I need anything else? Will my windows activate again?
Thanks for your help!

Good time of day, Dears!

I've upgraded my device with WD Red SA500 WDS500G1R0B 500 Gb, M.2 2280, SATA III
and CORSAIR Vengeance CMSX16GX4M2A2400C16 DDR4 - 2x 8Gb 2400, SO-DIMM, Ret
- everything works.

Best regards!

Hi and welcome.
Please read the answers to your questions:

If not listed (MINIX and user tested) it may not work
Check information starting here:

No. You have to use two equal modules (and if possible same brand) : example 4GB + 4GB (i tested different sizes and it did not work)

3) If everything is OK and J50 sees new SSD and memory, I plan to disable eMMC and install win10 image on the new SSD. Apart from the audio driver, will I need anything else? Will my windows activate again?
You can disable eMMC and use only M2. SSD :
-disable eMMC just for installing OS and after that you can re-enable eMMC on the BIOS (i use this option for extra storage) or use eMMC disable (for OS backup)
Windows will be activated (if not you can try manual activation)

Samsung 860 EVO SATA M.2 1TB confirmed compatible. Running it with two of the popular Crucial 8GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/S (PC4-19200) SR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT8G4SFS824A for a total of 16GB.

Specifically, I bought the Samsung 860 EVO SSD 1TB - M.2 SATA Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology (MZ-N6E1T0BW) from Amazon. I was tempted to try the 2TB out of sheer curiosity, just seemed like a lot of $$ for a garage computer.

Cloned with Data Migration tool from Samsung, activated in BIOS and here we are.

Before and after performance stats via Samsung Magician software, for what it's worth:

Thank you Minix for building a great computer in this form factor, J50C-4, also from Amazon.

That's an impressively organised workshop (y) Happy to know you like NEO J50C-4 :):)

Thanks. I'm seriously impressed. I initially bought it as a quick-reference computer when mid-job. After seeing what it can do, I added memory, storage, moved 2 VM's, my music player (bluetooth speaker not shown) and all my tools native or otherwise. I only have one more program on my old VAIO and that thing's going to the scrap heap.

It’s really great to see photos like yours, we’re always interested to see the different ways our customers put our products to good use. Lots of different use cases that we never even thought of when initially designing the products (y)
