DRM, custom ROM & Recovering

Hi I have received a NEO U22-XJ (Thanks Minix for reaching out and sending me a Device),

I have the goal of porting the Mi Box Android TV Firmware to this device

Google play certification (in play store) works

I would like Widevine Level 1 to remain working, are there any steps to take when flashing as to not loose Widevine Level 1 & HDCP keys (and any other licences such as Dolby ect...)

Will flashing the stock ROM using USB Burning tool restore DRM ect if I mess up during experimenting :)

Thanks

@aidanmacgregor we welcome you to the forum and look forward to testing any ROM's you might bring to the table.

May I please ask you to spend a few minutes reviewing the Forum Rules, in particular:
  • To avoid annoyance, signatures should not be more than five lines of text. If images are used in a signature, they should be very small.

and the very last rule is >>>> ;)

Did you check the Playstore for update of the DRM Info app?
That's what I was missing. It doesn't show in the regular updates.
Well funny enough I installed the Play Store version first and thought maybe it was that version that was not showing correctly so I removed it and installed the one that comes stock with the U22, same result so I have definitely screwed mine up for sure.....Or was I just the unlucky chicken with the longer neck when it came to slaughter time

My app had never updated, when I saw the pics I went looking for the update. Now I went back to the old app and it always reports Widevine L1... And now the app is showing for updates at the Playstore since I downgraded it. The app version is not the issue.

Marty in Spain is said, "evil of many consolation of fools". For now we are 2, my also gives me L 3. Is that why the Google Android TV Rom do not allow me to see Movistar or Amazon prime?

Could it happen with the devices that have been rooted? Just wondering...

I don't think that's why, because there seems to be no precedent to the fact that all of us who have used root are at L3 level, which I doubt, rather it seems a factory problem I think, that is, an error when granting the widevine DRM license.

What are the serial numbers of your devices, (as reported on the device itself)?

Is that perhaps a contributing factor? (I don't know BTW lol, I'm merely speculating as to a possible cause??)

I'm working from my terrible memory here but I'm reasonably sure my original U22 also reported Widevine L3 when I checked it brand new.

I'm not in front of a U22 with Android installed at present (it's now exclusively running CoreELEC from the eMMC), but my original U22 had the "generic" serial of either 0123456789abcdef or abcdef0123456789. (Apologies, I can't remember if it was the numbers or letters first.)

I now have an additional U22 that's just arrived & still sealed, but I'll check the serial number (& Widevine) on the new U22 when I get around to it & see if there's any differences.

I can't say for sure but one thing I am sure, a lot of users including myself are at L1, which is strange to say the least about some that are in L3 are affected by some "factory problem" on the other hand my machine has been subject to as many updates as there were to be anda few more for testing. The only thing I didn't do to it was to root it. And I am positive that rooting the machine is cause to many apps (normally related to paid services) refusing to run, so... just a guess, until proven I'm wrong, which I can well be.
