Broadcom Wifi adapter

I have a Z83-4 from 2017 running Windows 10 Home v1909. The Wi-Fi adapter is a Broadcom 802.11 WDI SDIO. I have recently moved from dead slow copper connection to fibre broadband using Sky in the UK. The Minix now has a habit of switching itself from 5Ghz providing 70Mbs download to 2.4Ghz with its 8Mbs download. I can find no preference option in the adapter settings to force it to stay on 5Ghz. I'm also unable to de-synchronise the two bands on the router as my Sky Q box apparently requires the router to be unchanged. Windows tells me I have the latest driver for the adapter and that I am in any case up to date for everything. Does anyone know of a driver update that would allow 5Ghz band to be selected or alternatively a viable plug-in USB 802.ac adapter that has been show to work with the basic Z83-4? I haven't asked Sky yet if the 8 Mbs on 2.4 is expected but it will definitely be slower than 5Ghz so it will be nice to have the option regardless of their answer.

I have tried Customer Services three times now but seen no reply so far.

Have you tried forgetting the 2.4GHz connection?

Windows 10 - Forget Wi-Fi Connection
  1. From the Windows desktop, navigate: Start > Settings icon. > Network & Internet. ...
  2. Tap or click Wi-Fi, then tap or click Manage known networks. ...
  3. Tap or click the appropriate Wi-Fi network name.
  4. Tap or click Forget.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I only get one connection, presumably because the router has both 2.4 and 5Ghz synchronised in its settings. I presume (and excuse my lack of knowledge here) that de-synchronising them and renaming one of the connections is necessary to provide the two separate options to select from. I will try to find an engineer at Sky who can confirm if the two need to remain synchronised for my Sky 'Q' TV receiver to work correctly, but this is the information I found in the Sky forum. Thinking this through I realise that a plug in USB adapter would therefore probably be affected in the same way as the built-in Broadcom. Oddly, our iPhones always seem to get c70Mbs connection when I check them. Perhaps Sky will be able to speed up the 2.4Ghz but I won't hold my breath.

What i understand from that:
You only have one SSID on your router.

My opinion:
Enter router wifi setup and separate your wifi:
-One SSID for 2.4 GHZ and another for 5 GHZ
-After that connect minix to 5 GHZ

I use that configuration and it works very well.

I think @alas834 is aware of that!

He is under the impression that they have to remain as they are for the functionality of his Sky receiver.

I searched for an answer and got differing opinions!

@alas834 I would do as @notrui has suggested.
At least try it! If you find it impacts the receiver you can always put it back to how it was.

Yes I read the text better now.
Yes he can try to separate the wireless networks and if it doesn't work he can still have only one SSID.

I eventually got hold of a Sky engineer who told me there should be NO issue in the Sky Q box if splitting the two bands, so the information on their forum is either out of date or just plain incorrect. I've now got two separate connections following your earlier suggestions and am happy to say the Minix is sticking with the 5GHz band and the higher speed. Just as importantly, the Sky Q TV receiver is still happily downloading data at high speeds and does not appear affected at all.

Thank you Villa and notrui for taking the time to help. Much appreciated.
