Ok here it goes.

Few bugs that really-well excuse the pun- really bugs me so I have decided to share it as I can't ignore it anymore, we deserve more. So if anyone can offer solutions and/or our MINIX team can fix these for next update that'll be sweet. Please note this affects both the normal & root version(they're basically the same really!)

1. "Dolby vision enabled" & the player always start in Dolby vision mode (I know you can turn it off but to have to turn it on every time you want to play Dolby vision is annoying. Their should be an auto option where it only triggers Dolby vision when playing a Dolby vision file like ugoos, zidooo, dune etc., and all other times it'll be in normal mode. Really frustrating bug this!

2. When playing Dolby vision files it always uses the 1080p instead of the 2160p option so I have to go into settings to choose the 2160p option and back again to play the file to get the 2160p. Again really annoying as we have to do this every single time you want to play Dolby vision files.

3. Sometimes I manage to get Audio(like Dolbydigital+) passthrough to my lg tv, but it's finicky as hell, you have to disable/enable "manual audio passthrough" few times for it to work.

We as customers paid a lot of money for this, so the least you can do is get the basic right!

Thank you.

Hello,

If you check this forum, you will see that the existing customers U22-XJ max got screwed the most.
The official software support is non existent from the start, as the company moved from Adroid boxes to PC and they don't support Android future developement.

I bought this box as I was a long time customer i owned NEO X5 and NEO X7, the support was excelent, this is also why i bought U22-XJ max, but i quess we should cut our losess and move to another company, me personaly will invest in a smart Android TV so no more TV-box.

For me personally the feature that lacks in the software is similar to your 3. point. In HBO MAX app there is no sound on the TV as the dolby output is broken and i also have an LG TV. Can you tell me what settings do you set to get the sound out?

Have a nice day.

So, do you think a smart android TV will accomplish all that the u22xj max can. I have a Sony Android TV, which has many limitations for streaming films etc.

Maybe I am missing something, and would appreciate your input.

Thanks

In my opinion, and take note this is a personal opinion, seeing Minix has bailed from the Android market it would be safe to say that I can mention a competitor box now. If you have the money then go for the Nvidia Shield TV, these are powerful units with constant updates. Before you jump however take a look at their forum as it is not without its faults and bugs. As a personal user for many years now I have to say I have never been dissatisfied with my Shield TV's.

I have read so many reviews about Nvidia. Seems to be fairly well received. But, it runs on Android TV, and not Android OS. My experimenting hitherto with Android TV has not left me impressed. Far too few, if any apps available on Playstore. Of course, my experience only goes back some 3/4 years ago. So, things may well have changed.

My own 4cyear experience with my Sony Android TV has dampened my enthusiasm for android TV devices.

Having said that, sideloading apks is a way around that.
I would like to test one out. But it is quite an expensive experiment, once purchased.

My needs are purely for streaming certain movie apps. I believe I am correct in my understanding from a number of reviews, that the Nvidia is designed mainly for the games enthusiast. For which I have zero interest.

But, I am always open to new ideas and updated information on android TV devices and welcome any help.

For the younger crowd yes, for oldies like me it is perfect for streaming, I have Kodi, Netflix (in 4k because it is Netflix certified), my local (paid for) TV app which is much like Zattoo and so on. I do have a few sideloaded apps but as you have guessed Android TV Google Playstore is slowly coming in line, for example I was very pleased to see that Synology Photos has now hit the Andoid TV Google Playstore, this I had sideloaded before.

If you have any apps in particular that you would like tested just let me know through PM and I will do my best (y)

Brilliant! That sounds great. Will PM you with the apps I use.

For now I would just stick with the U22 until it no longer does what you need it to do.

When the time comes to move on there will be most likely other options available.

I dont see the point in an nvidia if your not interested in gaming ( like myself).

Excellent cost effectve alternatve imho for streaming right now is the amazon 4k (max if you want) firestick. Check out https://www.youtube.com/@TechDoctorUK/videos for tips and tricks

Many thanks for your thoughts and advice. Tried a firestick....too limited in storage and ram. And Amazon keep restricting sideloading, plus they keep introducing new restrictions.

My minix is fine for what I need. So, as you suggest, I will stick with it.

Reliability is a point for me, the original unit was released May 2015 and still receives the same updates as the more recent models and generally bugs that are reported via the forum get resolved in the updates, they listen...

Agreed.

Nothing that is easily circumvented, thats half the fun;)

Plus I havent found RAM to be an issue and additional storage via USB stick is easily achieved.

Agreed. If it ain't broke, why fix it! Does mostly, what it says on the tin?

I got the U22 max for Christmas to replace an old U9 H. The only issue I have had with it is that the HDMI spoofing isn't working when trying to watch NowTV. Does anyone know if this is a bug or am I missing a setting somewhere? I've seen that there were issues of this nature with the original U22 but they seem to have been resolved.
