CentOS, sound

Hi all,
I am using Minix Z83-4 since 7/2017 with CentOS, allthough I know the trouble with Wifi, sound etc. . Current CentOS 7 uses kernel 3.10, Wifi and sound is not working. I got Wifi running with elrepo kernel 4.15. Today I am using elrepo kernel 4.20.7-1, Wifi is ok. But regarding sound only hdmi works, thanks to Linuxium's patch for Ubuntu. The sound hardware is not detected by elrepo kernel 4.20.
Switching to the current official CentOS kernel 3.10.0-957.5.1, I guess the sound hardware is detected, as all modules with chtrt5645 are loaded (not so with kernel 4.20). But aplay lists only hdmi, no sound card.
Can anybody help ?
Best regards.

Obviously I am the only one to use CentOS on Minix. So as to report a little progress:
After opening a ticket on elrepo, I got a prelimnary kernel 5.0 (release candidate). After making a fresh install, starting from DVD CentOS 1810, with kernel 5.0. on top, now the sound chip works. Meanwhile elrepo released a new kernel-ml 4.20.11-1 with equivalent configuration. This should work, too (not yet tested).
Still missing wifi and sound with distro kernel 3.10. Bluetooth & SD card (broken) not yet tested. Still problems with sleep states, too. In order to get something fixed, I have to drop a bug report at Red Hat. Not yet sure, if I do.

I bought my Z8304 hoping to run CentOS on it so this thread is encouraging to say the least. Although I'll take any Linux distro, but I'm most familiar with CentOS. But as a user and web software developer, not a kernel+devices kinda guy, so I'm hoping CentOS 8 1905 has the updated kernel and drivers needed for Wifi.

[Edited to remove the respin question.]

I see the Ubuntu download image for Minux from a month ago here, so maybe that's the simplest path forward for me. I do like to go with the flow and if most of the Minix Linux users are running Ubuntu...

Update: I updated the BIOS to the latest in this forum (no problem) and put the Ubuntu ISO on a USB drive, used F11 to select is and booted Ubuntu 18.04 no problem. Allowed the updates to kernel 5 and 18.04.3 LTS and again no problems. Devices recognized. I think I'm going to stick with Ubuntu on this Minux box and CentOS for my actual work machine/projects and that will help with better familiarity with both.
