Hello

My Neo Z83-4 V2.0 has stopped working at arround 01:00 (Europe Summertime), on the 4. June 2019.
I used it for my Wheaterstation-Website.

I cant repair it with the windows tools and a new Installation of Win10 failed because there is no Memory, The C-Drive is not mapped in EFI Shell and Windows Setup cannot find a Harddirve or SSD to install there.

I opened the Neo and look inside, i hoped that i can see something there i think about removing the little Battery for a time. But it read somewhere that this can delete the BIOS so i dont plug it out.

Is it possible that Windows Update break the Firmware, and now it cannot boot anymore i found Blogs of this problem from 2016. Should i try to remove the Battery and wait some time to reset it or will i loose the BIOS-Information?
Or is there a Firmware i can install from USB in EFI-Shell, EFI-Shell is the last thing that works now.

Best Regards

Removing the CMOS battery won't delete the BIOS per se, it will just reset all settings in the BIOS to their defaults or zero where applicable.

It is possible for a weak or dead battery to cause boot issues but the batteries usually last 10 years or more if the unit has had constant or regular mains power.

It wouldn't do any harm to change the battery if you think it's a factor. If you are able to beforehand, enter the BIOS & note all current settings to reset them after you have changed the battery.

Additionally, is the LED on the front of the unit its normal colour? Read here... https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/what-do-the-colors-of-the-led-light-stand-for.21/

Let us know if the problem persists after the change :).

Sounds like the PSU & the mainboard are both fine then.

Come back to us when you've changed the CMOS battery.

I checked the battery and plug it out for 45min

And setup the BIOS like it was before (only the date and time was wrong)

Yes it dont boot

I checked the BIOS in my Laptop and see that there is a Boot Option „HardDisk Windows boot manager“

The Minix BIOS shows only „HardDisk“

This looks like the memory-Modules are broken, windows setup cant find any Memory to install it there.

Are you prepared to test the system with a spare RAM module?

How long have you owned your Z83?

I tested the memory and it says good, i will repeat the test this weekend again and send the image shown after the test

Well done ;). That being the case, your Z83 could obviously see the USB drive you connected with memtest on it but it still can't see the onboard eMMC???

How long have you had your Z83?

Is it possible to get back my files from the broken memory?
Or is it Impossible i have no backup of the system.

With RAM memory you lose everything after a reboot of the OS.
With ssd eMMC you can restore the data.
If you formated eMMC you lose everything and it very difficult to restore the files, only with special programs.
RAM and eMMC are different.

The problem is, that i cannot install Windows again because there is no memory for it to install it there.
The windows boot manager error is gone.

The efi shell only lists the USB-Sticks attached to the minix

Hi guys,
I have same problem here. Windows won't boot. The color of the led is... purple??
I tryed to boot from USB but get a error. After that, minix try to boot but shut down all the times... I used 1809 Image, but how do I know wich is the best for my V2 version? Should I try with a lower one?

Any help?
Thank you!
António
