“No network”

I have two U22-xj units, I love them, no problems.

I recommended one to a friend amd he was having major issues setting it up.
I took it from him to see what problem was.

can’t update firmware, keep getting an error saying it isn’t connected to a network.
have used both Wi-Fi and Ethernet.

have tried factory reset several times.
getting nowhere.
nothing seems to be working on it.

any suggestions welcome.

I'm no expert. So apologies if I am teaching you to suck eggs. Have you checked what firmware version his box is using?

If you are trying to fix it for him on your home Internet, have you ensured his box has the same up to date firmware as your own u22? If not, therein may Lie the problem.

Try reflashing it to Firmware 006A. And see if that works.

You only need internet to update the device via OTA.

You can update the device via manual installation: (latest here)
https://theminixforum.com/index.php...w-20210203-bugtracker-ota-now-available.3722/

Of course to update the firmware (via manual update) you need to download first the image.

Internet acess:
-make sure you connect your U22-XJ to ISP router (direct connection via Ethernet)
-try other devices (direct connection to ISP router)
(PC, etc).
-if you have no internet with all your clients , smartphones, PCS, minix, etc .. (via wifi and/or ethernet) the problem may be with your ISP router (first restart the ISP router, for now)
-disconnect all Switches or other routers connected to ISP router
-If you have no problems with your ISP router then begin the debug with your clients (U22-XJ, etc).

Hi, it’s not any fault of the internet, it was the same at his house, and could use browser etc on it.

I took it home, have used both Wi-Fi and ethernet. My connection is fine, it’s only saying l can’t connect to network when I try download the firmware update.
life reset it several times, just won’t move.

all I can find out anywhere is to try the manual update, here I admit I’m a novice. (A Mac user! ? so having to do all that stuff is way over my head and like a new language to me, is there a step by step idiots guide to doing the manual update?

I was wondering if I would be able to source the update file “locally“ by connecting it via usb to my minix box and downloading it to mine? Is that possible or illadvised?

thanks again..

Hi guys, couldn’t find my original post until now! Will try these this week amd report back thank you!

You didn't actually answer @dak7385 's post/question above. Which firmware version do these U22's already have installed?

I was wondering if I would be able to source the update file “locally“ by connecting it via usb to my minix box and downloading it to mine? Is that possible or illadvised?

Not possible!

You'll need a Windows system to carry out a manual firmware flash as well as that can't be done from a Mac either.

However, unless MINIX have very recently stopped all OTA updates altogether without telling anyone, then my main concern would be exactly why two U22's from two different sources are failing to allow a normal & simple OTA update if they're apparently functioning normally as far as internet access is concerned???

Is there a VPN or any security software/apps in active use anywhere in the chain here? I.e. is there a VPN app installed & running on the U22's or do you/your friend configure your routers to connect directly via a VPN etc.?

Otherwise, full details for manually flashing a U22 can be found here :)...

https://theminixforum.com/index.php...nual-firmware-installation-instructions.2768/

The FW006A firmware image itself can be found here & that remains the most advisable firmware to use at this time. (But, are you absolutely certain these devices don't already have FW006A anyway?)....

@Cornypops .....I wrote a simple guide for mac users on how to update firmware by flashing any minix device.
