4K@60Hz Resolution on Xubuntu 18.04?

Hi,

I have some N42C running Xubuntu 18.04.

Recently, I was trying to connect them with active mDP to HDMI adapters (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00PJ3LSIG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - active adapter as recommended in this forum) to several 4K displays (TVs, Dell TFTs, ...).

Sadly, I can only get 4K@30Hz via this connection. According to the spec of the N42C, 4K@60Hz should be possible via the mDP port?
I even tried a direct mDP to DP calbe, but this is also 4K@30Hz.

I didn't test this under Windows 10 as we need Linux for our use-cases.

Does anyone has an idea what is going on? Maybe @linuxium has an idea or insights?

Thansk in advance,
rzo1

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I know the spec, that's why I am asking.

>> In windows you can get that

Windows is not an option in this case :) - it is not stable enough for our production setup.

>> Check also your monitor/TV if it supports 4k@60hz

Yup. We did this already. Tried several different monitor / tvs which do support 4k@60Hz.

>> Try with another cable or other xubuntu version.

We test several mDP to DP cables (different vendors) as well as different active mDP <-> HDMI adapters with 4k@60Hz capable cables.

For this reason, I suspect, that this is related to Linux / Xubuntu in this case.

I was hoping, that someone did also experiment with this.

Ok.
You checked already that.

Maybe the problem is xubuntu.

If you can try a different version of linux or update (maybe display drivers)

@linuxium can you give your opinion please?

I have found several reddit posts suggesting, that the problem indeed is related to Linux / i915 driver and a wired combination of EDID information :)

For this reason, I was hoping, that @linuxium has an idea on that :)

If using a MiniDP to HDMI adapter/converter, the maximum display output resolution will be 4K @ 30Hz.
It's only possible to achieve 4K @ 60Hz if using a direct MiniDP-to-MiniDP connection.
