4K Settings

Hi All,

Finally got a 4K TV! There is no option in 'Settings' to set the U1 output to 4K, the maximum available is 1080p. Are the resolution output options determined by the detected display? I ask this because I have a central media room where the equipment is installed & I run the video to different rooms using an HDMI over Cat5E solution. I don't know whether the Tx's & Rx's I'm using are 4K capable. They probably aren't but before spending money on new ones I wanted to feed the new TV a 4K signal from the U1 to test whether it works. My theory was that if it didn't work then I need new equipment.

However, if the U1 automatically detects the available display & sets itself to the highest output option available then I have my answer. Can anyone advise if this is the case please?

Thank you.

Just to clarify....

.. Have you tried directly connecting your U1 to your new 4K TV with a short HDMI cable? Or, is it still all going through your elaborate system?

Your existing cabling & other hardware such as splitters/matrix or HDMI to ethernet convertors etc., etc., may not be up to spec to carry a 4K signal. (Chances are they can only handle 1080p at the most if they've all been in place for some years.)

A test with the cable supplied with the U1 would be the simplest option to give you an instant answer. (Then you can start looking at all the other stuff you'll need to upgrade with your current set up too ;).)

I also suggest you connecting the U1 directly to 4K TV. The resolution can go upto 4K60Hz
In my setup, I have connected U1 to my Yamaha Receiver and Output of Yamaha receiver to my 4K TV. My receiver supports 4K pass through... Now this is important to understand... I need to switch on the TV before Minix because when TV is on, then Minix sees the TV port through Yamaha and gets in 2160p/50Hz. If I don't switch on the TV before then Minix stays at 1080 resolution.
So if this is understood then you may have a solution.

Let us know.

Hi All, Im sorry to open this old thread as my 1st post. I have the Minix Neo U1 and for some reason on the display settings its only giving me the 1080p and 720p option. its connected directly to a 4k tv and my Xiaomi mibox has no issues in the settings menu showing all the possible display options. ive tried a reset and unpluging the U1 but still only giving me those two options? Any assistance would be appreciated

Check & double check ALL display settings on the U1 itself in the first instance.

Are you definitely using a 4K capable HDMI input on the TV itself too? (If you currently have another device connected to HDMI 1 or 2 you may need to remove that to test the U1.). Some 4K TV's have 4 x HDMI inputs but quite often some of the available inputs might not have the full capability of the primaries, (1 & 2).

Worth double checking. Also, check or borrow the HDMI cables themselves from a proven device too.

Do you have any other factors such as an HDMI switch or other similar hardware in the chain?

Thanks for your response.

I think i went through all the possible display settings but will give it another check.

Definitely using the correct cable and correct hdmi port as I used the same cable and the same port the Xiaomi was plugged into, i literally just switched out the unit to test.

When I first booted up and checked the display settings went right up to 4k and then when I checked again only 1080p and 720p was available. Very strange as I connected the Xiaomi again and the Xiaomi had no issues.
