Almost ready to order a Neo T5

First, allow me to compliment you on your well-run, simple to use, handy forum. (y) I was doing some research on the Nvidia Shield forum and unfortunately, it has degraded into a hot mess! Searches are not working, threads are hard to find …… and so forth. Very different from your forum. When a brand has a good forum it speaks volumes about the product itself.

I am almost ready to pull the trigger on a Neo T5 and have a couple of questions before I take the plunge. I am retired in Mexico, in a medium-sized coastal city with a climate similar to Honolulu. During the summer, which is 70% of the year, it is like a sauna here. We love that, but our electronic equipment doesn't. I lost my beloved 2017 Nvidia Shield after 17 months, due to chronic overheating. I have just bought a Thermaltake Notebook Cooling Pad which would be large enough to lie both the Neo and my Seagate 4TB USB HDD on it for effective, active cooling. My preliminary tests on my HDD show that it remains cool to the touch, even when running very heavy 4K movie files.

Do you think this will be enough? Have you had any experience with Minix Android boxes in hot, humid (we live right on the ocean) environments?

My second question is concerning my Seagate 4TB HDD. I like to download the biggest, most feature-rich, file versions I can find. The files can be up to 100 gigs each. Will the Minix be able to run these heavies in 4K without stuttering?

Hi.
Yes, this is a good forum, very organized, simple to use, etc :)

I live in a country (Portugal, city Gondomar) and is not a hot country (most often has medium temperatures).
Maybe someone can test the T5 with a hot environment and may have information with the device running at high temperatures.
All My devices are most of the time with a low temperature and i can test that simply put my hand in the device.

I play 4K content from my NAS without problems (my biggest video files are not as big as yours)
I use Kodi NAS server with SQL (ethernet gigabit).

Great forum.
I have used a setup I made using an old android box shell with a heat dink from a pc chip.
you have to cut the top to fit it.
I use an usb connector cut to size and connected to a usb hub to power fan .Works great .
PS minix usually do not overheat, but have used it with other units.

Looking good Gaucho and Notrui!! I will order a T5 today!

After I have gotten through the inevitable Honeymoon phase I will post my impressions of it. It takes about a week to receive it in Mexico from Amazon US.
