Audio Output Configuration & 'Whitelist"

OK, two different topics but both connected to my quest on how to get Kodi 18.1 working properly on my Z83-4. As you may see I have a number of other posts on here which have come about as a consequence of trying to figure out what went wrong when I updated both Win10 to 1809 and Kodi 17.6 to 18.0 at the same time. I don't intend going over old ground in this thread but have come across two issues which seem to be new (well at least to me).

The first one involves my sound issues. Basically I have lost ALL my HD audio formats plus, picked up an audio stutter on the way. I 'think' I have narrowed this down but, it makes no sense.

The only way I can get 'stable' audio is to set the 'Audio Output Configuration' to - 'Fixed'. This means I can't check what exactly is coming out the speakers because this setting hides all the 'Pass-through' settings at the bottom of the screen. I 'think' it sounds better even though the HD formats are still not showing in the properties section. Why is this the ONLY settings that produces audio output?

The second discovery I have made is a section called 'White List' in the 'Display' section above 'Audio' settings. This seems to allow you to change your resolution also to select from a list of resolution that can be selected if/when the display rate changes. The problem there is that I have had to turn off the 'change display rate to match screen' due to picture judder.

But what is this settings supposed to let you do?????
