tl:dr - I am on the latest version of the official firmware and have been since it was released.
maybe I just have a device with faulty hardware? I have always kept the firmware updated using the ota update app, I regularly check for new versions as I had major problems with this device when I first got it, it used to lock up a couple times per day. it was only a couple weeks old when I first got it though so I wasn't surprised to see issues. geekbuying support had me replace the new power adapter with the old one from my neo-x5 when I e-mailed them about it, I wanted them to replace the device but they decided to see if they could get it working instead. I believe that actually fixed the problem at the time but it would still lock up maybe once every few days, but that slowly started to get better over time, maybe the updates fixed some of the reasons for the locking up. I think the last update was probably over a year ago now, I am assuming they have probably moved on to the newer devices and I wont see any more updates.
I would consider using a third party firmware if there were any good ones out there (open elec isn't really an option for me) as that worked out well for me with the neo-x5 which the community fixed by setting the cpu to run at 100% frequency all the time. the official firmware would allow the cpu to drop to lower frequency to save power, but it would cause videos to lag and everything to run like crap. I dont think minix ever adopted that fix in their official firmware either, but that was a long time ago so its hard to remember. eventually that box was starting to run like crap all the time which is why I got the top of the line neo x8-h plus to fix the problem.
I have also gone through several updates to the youtube app since I last posted, and they never seem to change the audio sync issue. the issue isn't just with youtube, I will get them with various other video players too, occasionally the whole thing will lock up on me and need to be unplugged to reset it.
