BBC Iplayer problem on U9-H

Well I have just tested the v4.96 on a U22-XJ and that works .. I have just tested on a U9-H and v4.96 does not work ... I have reinstalled v4,94 and it is working on the U9-H .. SO .. T5 is OK on v4.96 as is U22-XJ.. I don't have access to a U1 but hopefully today I will get one in for an update.
Have just updated U1 and that only works on v4.94

Gilera ... A possible cause for your issue is that play store may be auto updating ... I suggest you check and turn it off if it is on and manage the updates manually.

The BBC are requesting an update to continue using iPlayer, having realised a few months back that only V4.94 would work whilst later versions presented with the same problem. The problem: whilst all looks fine the player will play the accepted choice and then only the sound track plays whilst only the opening frames of the video are available as static .. the sound track plays for the full duration of the choice I believe the issue is the same for the U1 but fortunately the U22 plays OK ... I have a lot of U9 and U1 that need access to the BBC .. any thoughts would be very much appreciated. I am living and using the Minix outside the Geolocation area of the BBC.

Downloads in iPlayer haven't worked forever. Well now they do!

I just tried a downloaded episode and it plays well. Streaming though doesn't as you described. WTAA? (What's That All About?)

I have relatives with a U9-H that has CE FW001 Android 7. Afaik iPlayer is working just fine on that.

@gdf I moved your post to this earlier thread.

I have just been forced into an update of the iPlayer app. Now it doesn't work. I'm based in UK. Stock Minix u9h. Was previously running the old version. It freezes on first frame of any program and just plays audio. Also 3/4 of the screen is green. 1/4 is the frozen video. This is bad news for our family as it's our only source of BBC content. FW008 20180209

I have progressed slightly. Restart the box and the first program I play will work. All subsequent programs streamed in the app will freeze. Another option is to force stop the app, then it will work again for one play of one program.

Thanks yes I saw the bit about downloading. But my kids have grown up with click and play on demand and won't stand for downloading! The next part about someone else with a new homebrew firmware is managing to get it to work fine is good news. I didn't really want to go down that route of wiping it and learning how to flash a new firmware and I've got a Mac so that probably won't have Minix flashing app? etc etc.

It would be very good if the MINIX software development team would agree to take a look at the issue with regard FW008, and even nicer if they could devote time to creating a fix that can be resolved in a Firmware update , I believe it is achievable as the Hardware is capable as proven in the CE FW001 edition . There must be many disappointed U9-H users who up to now have enjoyed the BBC iPlayer, possibly their only avenue of accessing it is via their U9-H. Some small comfort is that the live channels work and do not present a problem, and with using the video time line (pink bar) you can drag back the play point an hour or so.

I have tried the CE Firmware in the past and tested it in my community of users, and whilst it is an asset to Minix users and is providing an option that many enjoy I found it unsuitable for my users and also a little unstable or perhaps clunky as many referred to it, but then the FW008 that they were used to was exceptionally stable and reliable, a joy to use. ... So fingers crossed and hoping this request is seen by those who can help.

An interesting development .. the neo U1 works with regard the BBC iPlayer update! .. so that halves my problems .. just the U9-H to set to play via a web browser and uninstall the app .. but hoping for a positive response from the development teams of Minix.

But now it's looking like we need a possible "Homebrew" fix for FW008 !
Yeah if someone could take the magic ingredients that work in your community firmware and squirt them into the Minix stock firmware. As you may notice, I'm a carpenter not a programmer!

Trying a workaround. Delete iPlayer app and use Chrome instead. Episodes play minimised but when I chose full screen I get the 3/4 green screen and it freezes the video.

Tried the same in Firefox. Full screen plays well but the whole image is shifted down a centimeter off the TV screen so the play controls are not fully visible and there's a black bar at the top.

Well good news the BBC iPlayer is no longer forcing an update, V4.94 is back working without the need to update ... Be prepared for changes further down the road, lets hope by that time a fix for the U9-H will have been implemented ... thanks to all who see this as an issue that needs to be resolved.

The last working version I had was V4.108

I will reinstall it and see what happens. I will let you know in due course!

Tried 4.94 from apkmirror and it works fine again. No forced update screen. Phew. Let's hope the BBC keep it like that. I was contemplating buying a more official device like a Chromecast with Google TV just to keep me going when something breaks on the Minix.
