Before I pull the trigger ... (Kayo question)

Currently I am running a UH9-H box through a Denon AVR to a Panny OLED TV, as bought (no FW upgrades). I am looking to upgrade to the U22-XJ Max, basically because I want to use Kayo streaming and future-proof against Kayo requiring later versions than its current Android6 requirement (speculative AFAIK). I currently use the box principally for music streaming (uncompressed off a USB drive), but the Kayo video streaming will also become a priority as Foxtel gets the flick then.

In short, I want a one-step upgrade the I will not have to fiddle with in the future.

IF I am to upgrade, is the U22 the best choice? Would an Android TV OS box be a better choice, if so which one? Are there any issues with the U22 for my use case that I should be aware of?

My fallback will be to keep the UH9, install Kayo, and cross my fingers.

Advice would be much appreciated!

There is no such thing ;)

The U22 has been available for over two years with no firmware upgrades of any note and nothing to indicate from Minix support here (which is all but none) to suggest otherwise.

is your best option for the time being

Thanks for your response, that is also the cheapest, so ...

I am no geek, and FW upgrades are not a criterion for me - always presuming it works out of the box - which was my question.

Downloaded Kayo to the UH-9, entered login details, and it said there was a problem. Now getting a banner that says Kayo does not support the device. My research is telling me that these problems are common on the cheap boxes from China, so at least for this app I am going to have to find another solution - certainly not going to splash a few hundred $$ on the U22 in the hope that it will work.

The U9-H is certainly not a cheap chinese box and with Android 6 is a very solid box, probably the best Minix have produced.

Whereas looking at the reviews of Kayo ( which only needs Andoid 6) it would appear to have very poor reviews overall.

I would be more suspectful of the Kayo app rather than the U9-H :)

Yes, good point. I am prepared to make some trade-offs from my Foxtel quality, given the price differential but some (and the number) of the complaints are a worry. After doing some more digging I plan to cancel my Kayo registration before the trial ends, and will stick with Foxtel for the rest of the F1 season. In the new year I will have another look at the options.

In the meantime the U9-H will remain as my music server.

I really wish I'd read this post before I pulled the trigger.....my new U22-XJ Max arrived today and already more problems than I had over the life of my U9-H
