Bells Ringing.

Hi Folks,
First time post. I have two boxes, a Minix U1 and and a U9 both run well, but every so often I get a very loud sound of bells or chimes and my volume drops. It can happen anytime if a movie is playing or not, in either box. I tried resetting the audio in settings, and think it has gone, but it comes back. Is this because I am doing something wrong or is it normal and should be left alone ? I don't know what the firmware is and if that has anything to do with the problem. I scares my wife as she is not expecting the loud sound.
Hope you can help as I love the boxes and I may be knit picking.

Chances are it's due to notifications for an app update from the Google Play Store. If you haven't actually configured either box for any services/apps to give you specific notifications (such as calender events), Play Store updates would be the most common notification.

You can set the notification sound to none if you wish, or even simply just set the notification volume slider to a lower setting or minimum. However, with the latter you may still experience sudden/random audio dips when a notification triggers.

To set the notification sound to none....

Open the device settings -> advanced settings -> sound & notification -> then choose "Default notification ringtone". Scroll right to the top of the notification sound menu & select none.

To turn the notification volume down....

You can either use the slider to set the notification volume to a lower setting/minimum which is directly above the "Default notification ringtone" as above. Or if you have an A2 Lite/A3 air mouse, from your home screen simply use the volume down button on your remote & move the slider to minimum. The volume slider on the home screen defaults to notification volume (bell icon). (You'll also see a small drop down arrow to the right if you want to adjust the alarm volume slider (alarm clock icon). Leave the media volume slider at maximum or you'll obviously experience very quiet movies/TV shows etc. (musical note icon) ;).

You have a notification turned on. I found if I'm in explorer (bottom left icon) you can pull down the status bar at the top and may see the offending app. Good luck in your hunt ;)
Thanks for your suggestion. I don't seem to be able to find Explorer. I can see Chrome. Does that have the same status bar and what am I looking for as the offending app ?

Thanks for your prompt reply. I found the sliders and did what you suggested. I will try it out tomorrow and post the results. I do have an A3 Air Mouse.

As Arcticwolf mentioned it's likely the google download that you're hearing. I noticed it a week or so back and saw (via status) that it was google so I disabled notifications.
As for explorer (see the icon very bottom, left) possibly it has another name :)PutMenu-1.jpg

I turned the sounds list to none as you folks suggested. It was the notifications that were causing the problem. I am impressed with the interest that you folks showed in stopping this problem. My wife is very happy as she didn't like the unpredictable loud sound. Keep up the good work. Waterview.
