Bluetooth speaker pairs but doesn't switch to it

This may be a stupid question, but once a bluetooth audio device is paired, shouldn't it be the active device? If I check the devices manager output devices, it shows only auto and hdmi - auto is selected. In this case it's a soundcore flare+. I seem to remember using it in the past without problems, but I can't get it to be used now. It's paired, but that's it. Any advice would be appreciated.

AS well as being paired the bluetooth device also needs to be turned on.
If its not spotted try turning it off then back on again.

If that dossnt work also try whilst the bluetooth device is on, turning bluetooth off and then on again in adnaced settings.

Yup - the speaker was on. I actually removed the device first (as in "forget the device"). Then turned the speaker on - paired immediately. Also turned bluetooth off/on. And I tried another BT speaker (SL1000S) - same thing - pairs right away, but can't output to it. It's interesting that the sl1000s has "Use for Media audio" in the connection, but not the flare. But neither receives output. Tried with neutron music player and xbmc minix version. Even tried disconnecting my regular attached speakers - via earphone plug. Edit - the flare pairs, but doesn't say "connected". The sl1000s pairs and says connected. Again. neither gets any audio.

i use a small blutooth speaker all the time with my U1 , and whenever on the rare occasion it dosnt work i follow the advice i gave and it works fine agai n.

Just two more things i can think of off the top of my head
Is the antenna firmly connected
Do you have the minx volume definetly turned up reasonably high.

Did you set it as the output device in the Audio Settings, Sound Devices, Output Devices section, as in the U1 it doesn't occurr automatically?

I have an X7 as well as a U1. On the X7 there are 2 settings apps - one with a black background (the better one) and one with a blue background. The former could pair with the flare+ but not connect. The other settings app (blue) actually paired with the flare+ AS A SPEAKER (had headphones icon in the image) and it worked as expected. YAY! Then I went back to the other settings app (black), and it too could connect to the speaker, and switched to it as expected. So back with the U1, it will pair with the flare+ but not as a speaker, and so it won't set it as an output device. Disappointing...

"Why can't the speaker connect to my device?"
"Delete the pairing record on the"(...) U1"and then try to re-pair."

"Is it possible to pair the speaker with a second device?
Yes it is possible but only after disabling the original device's Bluetooth or deleting its pairing record before pairing the new device."

(Source in commas: The Soundcore website)

Check if the Flare+ is not already paired with a device that might be on at the neighborhood, a mobile phone or something else.

Saddly I don't have access to any equipment of the kind to try it out. The general experience with pairing devices with the U1 was, as far as I can remeber from the forum in years, always successful even after some uncommon difficulties such as you describe. What is it reporting to be paired as at the U1?

Thanks for checking! The flare+ has an audio confirmation of connection feature. It does not sound for pairing. So I can confirm that after turning bluetooth off then on on the U1 it is pairing with the flare+ with no audio feedback. It is the same even after forgetting the flare+. So that is a bluetooth connection problem.

Now, maybe I should open a new thread for this, but with my other speaker (SL1000S) there is no issue with bluetooth pair/connection. I have audio confirmation of connection from the speaker. Here, the speaker is listed in the U1 bluetooth devices as paired and connected as a media device (headphone icon shows in the U1 Advanced Settings Bluetooth config). However the audio does not switch to bluetooth. So there is an issue here where the recognized and connected bluetooth speaker doesn't become active and is not in the U1 Settings (not Advanced) Audio Devices Manager -> Output devices - I only see "Auto" and "hdmi". In the Advanced Settings, there is no mention of Audio Output devices.

So again, thanks for your help, but I see no other options given the limitations of having a non-rooted device - can only see as far as the limited utilities allow.

If you think that you could solve the problems by rooting the U1 here are instructions on how to perform that action:

Yeah - I started that thread :) Looks like Mr Gufone never had the time to post the link and whatever else I found was basically "do so at your own risk" with mentions of bricking. It's safer replacing the U1 in the kitchen (where I sometimes use bluetooth) with the X7 which performs flawlessly.. U1 goes to the backbench. I got it mainly for 4k movies anyway which I don't watch as often as I had expected.

I have the same issue after I did a factory data reset today.
I connected my Logitech UE Boom 2 to my U1 and it works as expected for serval years.
But after the factory reset, u1 is not able to output the audio via the boom2.
The device is paired successfully, but there is only auto and hdmi in the audio output devices settings.

I also tried other bluetooth speakers but have the same issue.
