Boot from USB

Hello

Is it normal that I cannot boot from a bootable USB Stick except if I use the Sysprep-Image that you provide on your forum?
Is there a setting I need to toggle in the BIOS?

I need to create a system back-up using Acronis True Image, wich I have installed on a bootable USB-Stick.
If I use the same USB-Stick with your Image it works.
As soon as I load the Acronis onto the USB-Stick, it will not boot.

The USB-Stick works fine if I try to boot Acronis True Image on a different Computer.
I am using the NEO Z83-4 Pro.

Thanks for any help.

Kind regards.

How is the stick formatted? (Fat32, NTFS, etc.).

I tried booting using the USB 3.0 Port on my Minix.
It didn't work sadly. It just boots Windows as if I never tried to use USB Boot.

Do i need to set anything specifically in BIOS in order for it to work like described in the post linked?

Thanks for your help.

Hello all

As I am getting in a bit of trouble I tried the following to backup my Minix.
So this is to keep you up to date on my problem.

I loaded Acronis onto a DVD to check if I could backup with that.
I tried to boot from a DVD using a USB-drive to back up my Minix.
The DVD boots fine from all USB-Ports.

Problem is, Acronis does not recognize the internal drive, so i can't do any backups.
I can backup any other Computer using this DVD.

Does anyone have an idea what could be goin on here?

Thanks for your help and regards.

Does your system boot normally from the internal storage without the USB stick?

If no, can you see the internal eMMC listed in the BIOS?

I understand you're trying to back it up, but is it otherwise working normally?

It does boot and work normally when there is no USB device attached.
I can see the eMMC in the BIOS.

Thanks.

....And the USB port definitely functions normally with non-bootable USB drives/HDD's as well yes?

No other problems that you're aware of is my point :)?

I'm assuming all is otherwise normal as you haven't mentioned any other issues. As @Skynet has said, you may have to wait for @Minix - Martin to help you further with this particular issue!!

(Out of interest, have you contacted Acronis' help & support to see if they have any additional insight as well?)

Hello all

No, the device works wonderfully, USB-boot and not being able to backup issues aside. :)
There are no other problems with my device.

At this moment I only checked their Knowledge Base to see if the errors I've been getting are known.
One of two errors where listed, but it describes issues while snapshotting, which I'm not trying to do.
The other error was not even listed.
So I'm still googling around at this point.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Hey guys

I am so sorry to have wasted all your time.
I have finally found out, why I was not able to backup my install from this minix.
The version of Acronis I was using does not support eMMC.

So, if I can get my hands on a more recent Acronis version on a dvd, I'll be able to backup.
I do have a USB-Drive from a friend with a more recent version.
Sadly I still can not boot from there to use it.

Thanks to all.

There is another way if you can do:
Boot from minix device and copy (or share the folders) the information you need to another PC via ethernet for example.
Then you will be able to use Acronis on other PC.

Or Maybe you can download and install a newer version of acronis that is compatible with eMMC.

Here are alternatives for acronis:

Thank you for the information you give us about compatiblity , it is good to know.

Hello

Thanks for your input. I was able to back up at last, using a newer version of Acronis on a DVD.
I didn't try the other options you listed.

Thanks at all for helping.
Wish you all a nice weekend.

Kind regards
