Boot windows 10 from sd card

Currently no .... it was a question that I asked a few months ago but they have not studied the z83-4 as the raspberry, install windows system directly into the SD card, also because for the owners of the 32 G version they are really few for windows ... maybe in the future they will ...

however you can do it with a usb stick having installed the latest bios 1.8.

Minix NEO 4 Home Windows 10. I am trying to update my current windows 10 to version 1909. My bios has been upgraded to version 1.08 windows version. I tried the regular windows installer media creator. I'm running into the typical, for this mini pc, the storage problem (8 gig more needed to do the install). I'm thinking maybe the simplest approach would be a clean install. This pc is not of primary use. No email, word processing, heavy gaming, etc.. Just occasional use, browsing, light game use, with a den large screen tv. Another thing I considered, if possible, was using the USB 3.0 port with a usb SSD drive or even the usb thumb drive you mentioned. I tried a search for these issues in the forum. I'm not "super" technical. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Latest windows 10 version is 20H2.

You can use windows media creation tool.

Hello
read what Martin says.
"In comparison to the BIOS V1.7, V1.8 added "Booting the operating system from a USB device(USB stick or external HDD)".
Because of the limitation of the internal eMMC(only 32GB) of NEO Z83-4, some users expect to install the OS into an external HDD or a USB stick with larger storage space.

Please note, this feature is ONLY available when you use the USB 3.0 port (NOT USB 2.0 port) on the NEO Z83-4.

For example, you can install an OS into an external HDD or USB stick (USB thumb), and attach this external HDD or USB stick to the USB 3.0 port on the NEO Z83-4, start the NEO Z83-4 and press F11, select the external HDD or USB stick option to boot that OS. "

Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking a clean install to a usb thumb drive or usb hard drive. What's the experience with using a thumb drive? I would use usb 3.0 blue port. If the usb thumb performance versus external hard drive is pronounced then I would use an external hard drive. I have my product key. If I wipe the current windows installation (not sure of this process) will my system retain via bios capabilities networking (I'm cat 5 cabling to my devices), mouse/keyboard function and etc... I only use browser or light game play on this pc. No email, banking, or security risk type stuff.

Thanks for helping.

I advice you using External hard drive to install OS (faster).

If you wipe the system your BIOS will stay the same (same settings, etc).

If you decide to do a clean OS install be aware of:
All data/settings will be lost (backup first).

License key:
No problem (saved within the BIOS).

Networking:
Should work without any problem.

Note:

Wow. Great help/forum here..... I will use external usb 3.0 hard drive.
More novice/dumb questions to follow.. ???

Thanks all.

Is the reason for minix windows related to storage limitations or specific feature matches? Or does it matter if I am going to run windows from a usb 3.0 SSD?
It includes the correct drivers for the device.

I have the Minix windows zip file. I ordered a usb SSD. In setting up everything to run windows from the SSD, whats the process for using the zip file to create the windows SSD drive? ***caution dummie at work here**:rolleyes::rolleyes:

If you're happy to reset/reinstall Windows then I suggest to do that, update to 2004 build then clone to USB HDD using WinToUSB.
Or clone then once you have it booting from USB HDD then update.

I have done this before using Macrium Reflect but today I have tried WinToUSB and it is simpler.

Once done all you have to do is change the UEFI Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities, Boot Option #1

I can offer more help and screenshots if necessary.

Will the minix windows 1903 zip file unzip to bootable windows install or ?

I have another pc to which I downloaded the zip file . I would like to set up from this other pb (Dell) a windows bootable 3.0 usb ssd. Then use this bootable ssd to run on my NEO 4. Sounds like certain needed device drivers are on this Minix windows as opposed to regular windows version.

No, not that I am aware of!

Just do as I suggested and clone the Windows install from the eMMC to the USB SSD.

Once you have the Windows booting from the SSD you can format the 32GB eMMC for extra storage.

I received 120 Gb SSD. When I used winto usb, I selected physical to ssd (bottom option of 3), then next, I am then getting an error messsage stating the trial version does not do 4 k discs.

As I am not the sharpest tech type, what about wiping the windows on my NEO 4, and reinstalling Win 10 from a MS windows download. As I understand the product key is in my bios. There is nothing critical in my current NEO 4 windows setup and rather than driving you guys crazy, I would just run windows from the NEO box and use my SD card for storage. Would I run into drivers issues versus the Minix windows version which I downloaded.

I am not sure of the nature of this Minix windows version download. Is it an image copy of a windows 10 1903.1946 version or ?

I've no idea what this means?! EDIT: See next post #18

As I said above I have used WinToUSB and it was plain sailing, no issues!
I cloned the eMMC Windows install to a 1TB SSD.

I would just run windows from the NEO box and use my SD card for storage.
Firstly you will most likely have Windows update issues, ie: not enough storage on C drive.
Secondly, with this device a micro SD card can suffer from not always being recognised and I would suggest not using it.

I still think your best option is to boot from USB.
