Can I update T5 drives from Windows PC over the network? Help needed to access Minix T5 from Windows PC

I have a Minix X8-H-Plus connected to my network and to my TV. The Minix runs Kodi and I play movies etc that are stored on my Windows 10 Home PC and on a USB drive connected to the Minix. I want to update files on the USB drive connected to the Minix but I have to connect it to the PC to do this. Windows can't see the Minix over the network.

Also I can't upgrade Kodi beyond v16 on this Minix box.

So I need to upgrade and I'm thinking of going to the T5 box. It's very cheap and I don't need access to all the Android apps as I have a smart Android TV.

Can I update usb drives on the T5 from my Windows PC over the network?
Presumably I can run Kodi versions greater than v16.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for that Marty. I hope to use that box elsewhere so will follow that link.

But I still need to know - Can I update usb drives on the T5 from my Windows PC over the network?

I've bought a Minix T5, installed it, installed the latest version of Android TV and installed Kodi 18.6.

In Kodi I have added a SMB source link to a folder on my PC and I can watch any videos that are on the PC.

But I can't access the T5 files etc from my PC. I have a 2TB HD attached to the T5 that I want to update from my PC.

I can ping the T5 successfully.

Under File Explorer - Network, the T5 does not show up under Computers. But it does show up under Other Devices but that's no use to me as all I can do is see the Properties of the T5.

What do I need to do on my PC and/or Kodi to get this to work? I'm running Windows 10 Home 1909.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Install on your T5 X plore file manager.

After installation you should be able to acess your network (copy, delete, etc) from T5 to PC and vice versa.

Yes, but you cant ( or I couldnt !) get access to the USB drive .over the LAN from a PC. If you can please advise how.

Only workaround i can think off at the moment is to transfer to the device download folder and then use a file manager on the T5 to move across to the usb drive.

We are really waiting for minix to update the firmware and add the samba server

Yes.

I will test that later. Only adding samba server (in the next update) or with a app installed (samba server app, i did not test/installed)

You can also install this FTP server wich works fine with external memory :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver&hl=en

It's fast, and free ;)

It is only need to show you the normal app launcher icons (useful for android TV OS)
thats what i understood
Olive Tree ftp server did not work for me
it would install but when run would open up but could not start the server

Did you go to the settings to set IP addresses, port, base folder ?
I use it on another Android TV 9 with success (not tried on T5 btw)

I know how to do all that but as i said it would open up but thats as far as it would allow. no access to all the settings to set the credentials

(not tried on T5 btw)

maybe you should try on the T5 ......your earlier posts gave the impression you had !

You can use paid version of BubbleUPnP.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp&hl=en_GB

I have tried it! (y)

You will have to sideload the app as there is not an Android TV OS version.

Internal storage, SD Card and USB storage devices are all available through BubbleUPnP in Windows Network Locations.

You can copy files from the T5 to Windows but not from Windows to T5. Well I couldn't a way! :(
