Connecting U22-XJ Max Issue

Hi,

I'm new to this forum.
Bought the NEO U22 and something weird happened when connecting it to my TV via HDMI.
When I inserted the HDMI into the box, it knocked out my ARC audio connection that I have with my LG soundbar. So i lost audio on my Sky box and PS5.
The really weird thing is that the power on the U22 wasn't even on. Even stranger, when i did power it on, the ARC connection restored for all my other devices and audio returned through my soundbar.
Point worth noting...all my HDMIs are connect through a switcher in my TV as one of my three TV HDMI ports died, so I needed a switcher to get my desired number of ports back.
I upgraded to the U22 from the Neo U1 and as part of my investigation I reconnected the U1 to see if the same thing would happen, but it didn't happen and all was ok with that.

Can anyone make sense of this ??
The U22 worked fine when on it seems but I do not want to have to turn it on every single day so that I can hear audio through my soundbar.

Hello,

The timing was perfect; I´ve just registered in the forums just to post a reply here about that particular topic. I´ve bought an U22 recently (Max version, but it doesn´t matter because it´s basically the same harware) and I have exactly the same problem.
In my case It´s happening with a Samsung TV and a Samsung soundbar. My soundbar is connected to the TV using the HDMI ARC port and everything works fine... until I plug in the U22 to the tv. (It doesn´t even need to be on, or even connected to the power supply)
Just a few seconds after, all sound coming from the soundbar stops abruptly (the soundbar is still on btw) and afterwards I can only use the TV speakers. (when the u22 is switched on and working everything works fine btw the problem only appears once I swich it off or directly while is off)

At this point I can only make the soundbar works again:

1. switching on the U22 and leaving it on forever.
or
2. turning everything off (TV, soundbar, U22....just everything) unplugging the hdmi cable of the U22 from the tv port and switching the tv and the soundbar on again.

I also have an old Minix U1 and everything is working fine. What leaves me scratching my head the most is the fact about the problem appearing even with the U22 unplugged from power!?¿

Abrams - We have an identical problem, you just explained it better than I did. Only slight difference is that I'm connecting through a HDMI switcher and it appears that you are using your TV's HDMI ports.

I was worried that it had something to do with my HDMI Switcher, but obviously it does not.
I plugged out my U1 just 2 nights ago after 3 years of faultless operation and connection, so I struggle to see how can it be that the U22 is causing the issue, but it seems to be the common factor at the moment.

I wonder is it worth doing a full disconnect of all devices, power down everything, and one by one, reconnect each device and power up again.

Question now, can anyone help who actually knows what the issue is ?....Let's hope so

broc50, yes I´m using the standard TV HDMI ports not a switch and I´ve tried also disconecting every other hdmi devices I´m using... and nothing; I can say 100% sure it´s a problem coming from the U22 unit but what worries me is that I think it´s a hardware related problem not software/firmware.... I wish i´m wrong! but what you said, let´s hope someone can shed some light to this issue

The exact same problem occurred on the U22-XJ but was eventually resolved with the release of firmware 005, the U22-XJ Max is not so lucky as I am led to believe that Minix will no longer be releasing updates for any of their boxes so all I can suggest is you contact Minix Support directly with the CEC/ARC problem:
support@minix.com.hk

I have mailed support. Let's see what comes of that. Thanks Marty.

Thanks for answering Marty, you have confirmed what I've already read from various reliable sources.
Said that I find absolutely unacceptable the policy adopted by Minix towards their customers, abandoning them along with their expensive brand new products.
In my case i'm returning the u22 and forgetting it for good.

@broc50 good luck with that but I don't think you'll ever get a solution from them.

Will give it a couple of days. If no response or resolution, I'll return it also.
The A3 air mouse i got with it must go back anyway as it is not turning on the box, so might as well send the lot back...pity, I liked the box and liked the U1 I had before it, but cannot keep something that is not working as designed to. Having paid a high end price, one would expect it to be perfect, as perfect goes.

So they sale not finish Products with no hope that one day the make it work correctly bonus : they stop answer in the forum (i wait for answer in the x39 post , Android 10...) and have a New problem with u22xj.... firmware bug
Contact minix...this never bring me a solution in the past ...as you Say they stop working on firmware updates....so no help in the horizon ...?
In Europe wee call this scammer and its clear that the company go to court ...

Sadly MINIX never did fix the CEC/ARC issues as described above & it was still present post FW005 with the original U22 as well :(. Unfortunately, they have also gone to quite some length to actively ignore any mention of the known HDMI/CEC issues in the public areas of the forums since. (I still can't use a U22 today with my AVR with anything other than CoreELEC or the device will behave exactly as described above.)

It's a known issue & unfortunately you're stuck with it, period. The ONLY remedy I've found for it to date is to bin the stock firmware & install CoreELEC but seeing as you guys have just spent a small fortune on a U22 Max inclusive of the Android OS, I doubt you want to downgrade it to what essentially becomes a Kodi only device.

Otherwise, 4 options really....

1. Leave the U22 powered on indefinitely, (but that of itself can cause additional issues as the U22 then may not allow the user to switch away to another HDMI device connected to an AVR/soundbar as it aggressively pulls control back again even if CEC is 100% disabled in the MINIX settings.)

2. Pull the HDMI from the back of the U22 whenever you don't want to use the U22 but that then totally defeats the purpose of owning an expensive AVR/soundbar system as well, not to mention it's unacceptably annoying.

3. Bin the MINIX firmware for CoreELEC.

4. Return the device forthwith, (these known issues will never be fixed).

The U22 was essentially abandoned without fixing this major flaw while simultaneously releasing an upgraded variant of the U22 that still included the same major issues anyway. It's a pitfall many customers continue to fall into as a result & frankly it was a disgraceful decision to just carry on selling these units while completing ignoring the same complaints from customer after customer directly affected.

This is exactly why the announcement by MINIX to release the MAX variant of the U22 inclusive of many of the original U22's shortcomings with zero plans to ever fix anything was met with mixed opinion. (Case (or cases) in point:(.)

Thanks for that definitive explanation Arctic Wolf.
Yes, none of the workarounds above are viable really, given that 1. Minix knew the issue was there and unfixed, and 2. The price tag of these units suggest they should not come with such an inconvenient and annoying issue.
Shame in Minix for letting customers down like that.
My U22 is now disconnected, packed up and ready for return.
Question now is: What do i go for next? I'll enjoy searching. As Picard would say "Shields up"....maybe !!!!

Mine is packed up and ready to return tomorrow too… but good news is I’ve already found and bought its substitute, the Beelink GT King Pro, a high end TV Box, Dolby compatble and I was lucky because even being more expensive than the U22 I’ve ending up paying less for it than for the Minix. And it seems Hdmi ARC works flawessly. (I was advised about it).

Will check out the Beelink Abrams, best of luck with it anyway.
