Constant Notification Ringing

I downloaded a video and ever since then I keep getting a notification sound. I ran Malwarebytes, deleted the downloaded file and the program. Restarted to box, but no change.

It won't stop.

It seems to have stopped for now, but..........

I went in and lowered the notification volume after it stopped.

I also downloaded a copy of AVG antivirus and found a couple I didn't expect. I dont think that had anything to do with the problem.

If an app has suddenly begun to issue notifications all you need to do is access the status bar. From there, rapidly double click, or press on the notification area of the status bar, hold & swipe down, & you should then see the previews in the notification shade. (The previews will clue you in to which app(s) is/are sending the notifications.)

If you downloaded a typical visual media container/file, such as mkv, m2ts, avi, mov, mp4 (to name a few common examples), the file itself wouldn't make any difference to the system notification settings of a U22 & neither would deleting said file(s).

Obviously, I also say this with a degree of speculation, but from your description it sounds more to me like you've possibly inadvertently activated a notification for one or more specific websites to your Google account, probably the site you just downloaded the file from. (Many websites also provide a simple popup asking the user if they wish to receive push notifications (block or allow) as another example, these are also saved to a Google account.)

If that is the case & for example, you were using Chrome, then the best thing to check first would be your Google account settings & look through your permitted notifications. If you don't normally receive notifications like this, then it's probably just added a single notification which you can simply remove & the notifications should stop.

You'll need to navigate to....

Device settings ->
Google settings ->
Settings for Google apps ->
Search, assistant and voice ->
Notifications ->
Notifications that you opted in to.

Remove any or all notifications you don't want.

There are additional notification settings built-in to the main Android settings too, to give you additional control. However, see if this course of action solves the problem first. If it doesn't, obviously post back & additional suggestions can be made then rather than completely saturating you now with multiple possibilities that aren't the problem ;).

Lowering the notification volume obviously won't address the root cause, all you're doing there is essentially making the notifications a little easier to bear.

Security suites, antivirus, anti-malware apps (etc.) will often find something you just may not expect too. It's also not uncommon for an update to mess with automated security scans & algorithms etc. to incorrectly highlight or quarantine apps that are actually perfectly safe. A degree of common sense is invariably the best defence there coupled with staying informed regarding the safety of any apps you are installing to the devices you own & operate. If you're disabling built-in security features regarding the installation of apps from unknown sources, then that's where you need to pay more attention. It would also be a very good idea to proactively install a decent security suite, or the better rated antivirus & anti-malware apps, & conduct regular scheduled scans, rather than only installing/running them reactively. (It's not like a mobile device where frequent scans can affect overall battery life, so there's really no reason not to install some decent apps in that regard.)

Let us know if no change :).
