CoreELEC - MINIX U9-H

Is it possible to install CoreElec straight into Minix memory. I’ve managed to get it to boot straight into it via the tutorial but it seems to still depend on the MicroSD being inserted.

I’m asking because back when I had kodi+Android I noticed having the MicroSD hooked created a slight lag loading things while in kodi (most likely because it was utilizing the MicroSD) and I’ve noticed I have a similar lag in kodi now..

Yes, just one command in SSH mode. Works fine

I looked into it and it’s not clear how to do it on the minix. I don’t mind taking the chance of bricking it (loll) but I can’t quite decipher how to proceed in trying to not depend on the SD card being present?

Just follow the tutorial :)

In the referenced tutorial, at the end, he says “So in final note, just to reiterate it does still require the SD card (or USB) to be in place for booting and mounting the partition but the actual CE is running off the EMMC.”

what tutorial are you referring to?

If you want to have BOTH Android and CE installed on the EMMC, then you WILL need the SD card to remain in place - but as the note says, that does not mean the CE program is installed on the SD Card, it needs to be there to direct the boot/mount
You CANNOT have DUAL system on this device WITHOUT leaving the SD Card in place.
(it's been a while since I utilized this system so just validate it all works as per the instruction thread)
If you want to free up the SD card slot, then use a USB stick (or SD Card in a USB Adapter) for the surrogate but again, you will have to leave it in place.
Note also that you can actually remove the SD Card AFTER it boots, but needs to be in there for the initial mounting from a power-off situation

If you ONLY want CE, then just flash that to the EMMC card as per the normal CE instructions - this will DELETE the Android completely but you will not require to leave the SD Card in place

I don’t want dual boot and just to clarify I’ve installed it to internal NAND via SSH (installtointernal). What other tutorial are you referencing (a simple hyperlink will suffise, I’ll figure out from there)

Thank for your help

Dual Boot Tutorial link is posted just a few posts up

Standalone CE install to NAND is detailed in the second post of this thread

I installed the S912 8.95.5 image and copied the gxm_q200_2g_minix_neo_u9.dts (renamed as dtb.img) to root of the SD card.
However, my U9-H hangs at the green android holding up the white MINIX logo when I long-press the power button with the formatted SD card installed. If I pull the SD card and cycle the power, it boots to Android on the internal storage.

I formatted the card with the LibreElec tool as well as RUFUS with the same result.
I have root on the Android install; could this be the cause of interference? I wouldn't think so, given that the long-press apparently is the equivalent of changing boot order.

Edit: Figured it out. The .dts file from Github seems to be the fly in the ointment. I tried 8.95.4 and extracted its included .dts file to root and CoreElec booted. Worked from USB too, in case anyone wonders if a stick would work instead of SD.

Thanks for this post, I had also that problem for 2 days, I have burned and burned, and tried many ways, when I did see your post I figured out that it's not the right way to just download ("right click and save target"). The gxm_q200_2g_minix_neo_u9.dts at https://github.com/CoreELEC/device-trees-amlogic is in fact a HTML-file (if you check the contents of the file) :)
Much faster and you save a lot of brain activity to just copy the "gxm_q200_2g_minix_neo_u9.dtb" (after the SD is burned) from /device_trees/ to the root of SD card and rename it to dtb.img

By curiosity, can I format and use for storage, on the same MicroSD, the "unknown partition" generated alongside the ~500mb bootable partition created by Rufus? I'm inquiring since I used a 128GB microSD card...
Thanks for your time

Hi! Help me please, problem kodi does not see files with iso extension. Device (minix-neo u9-h coreelec 9.2.5)

1. We're first assuming that you haven't specifically configured & added an advancedsettings.xml file that could exclude certain file types from being displayed in Kodi (such as .ISO), yes ;)? (Just checking, it's been done before & will undoubtedly happen again lol ;).)

2. How are you attempting to view the ISOs in Kodi? I.e. from the "library" view or the "files" view?) Try the files view so you can see all files on your sources that you've actually added in Kodi. If they're showing up OK in the files view then Kodi is seeing them correctly.)

3. If they're not showing up in your library view, however, then for whatever reason the information for your ISOs isn't being correctly scraped for them to be actually added to your library. (Could be your actual filenames, file/folder structures, incorrect scraper for the specific media itself, etc., etc.)

Read the Kodi wiki for filenaming conventions...

Movies - https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/Movies

TV Shows - https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows

Just in case it's another issue, (although highly unlikely).... Have you also tried enabling the "show hidden files & directories" option in Kodi's settings?

Settings -> media -> general
-> show hidden files & directories.

(This particular setting shouldn't be required to make ISO's visible but enable it if they're still not showing up & see if anything then changes. (You can always disable show hidden files again afterwards.) You will also need to set Kodi's settings to "advanced" or "expert" first if you haven't already or this setting won't be visible to you.

Hopefully, you'll see the ISOs in your files view anyway & then you can just take the necessary course of action so that they will also show up in your library view from then on as well ;).

Hi all!

I need your help! :(
I have a U9-H box with 9.2.2 CE. If I use an AAC audio file and srt subtitles, the image will start to stutter. Is there a solution for this?
The box is connected to the amplifier (Denon X1500) via HDMI. The sound setting is: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI, channel number 7.1.
Of course, the new AAC codec is the problem!

I figured out the solution!
The problem was not with the audio, but with the video encoding! I turned off the h264 acceleration and the stuttering stopped! :D

@Dolphine You could also update to the latest 9.2.x branch of CE quite safely

And check also your audio settings are as :-
Audio output device (Top Setting) to ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI Multi Ch PCM.
and the passthrough device is set to ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI.

Tick passthrough options for which you amp/avr can manage.

I don't have this option for audio: ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI Multi Ch PCM
It's just ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND, HDMI.
There is a problem even without sound. There is probably some problem with the video encoding that the S912 cannot play.
We are trying to figure out what can be wrong on a Hungarian forum.
If I convert the video using Handbrake, no problem!

Codec infó.jpg

There is a problem with the file on the left.
The same file on the right is transcoded using Handbrake.
