CoreELEC - MINIX U9-H

Tried switching to CoreELEC on my Minix U9 but just can't get the (original!) remote to work properly so sadly had to go back to LibreELEC, wasting a few hours in the process.

I have still no luck with it. Can anyone help? Still getting the message "Error in mount_flash: Coould not mont LABEL=COREELEC"

I tried it again this weekend.
Just download the good version here : https://coreelec.org/#download
Choose Minix U9-H (no need to copy dtb.img)
Flash it with Win32diskimager.
All done !

I have tried all USB ports on the Minig U9, none result. I will trie another USB stick perhaps the fault is in there but the stick i used is performing normal without any flaws.
I already had issues with USB sticks...

I have solved all my Kodi remote problems by buying a FLIRC receiver (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS2V7GM/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and told my Harmony that my device was a FLIRC Kodi. That has solved all my issues. Any tweaks I make with the Kodi Key Mapper add-on

However, I found that the visual display of CoreElec was so garbled; flickering of ghosted images on the home screeen; the screen would not stay still. Definitely not ready for Prime Time IMO. I returned to LibreElec.

How did you get the CE on your Minix? I still get the failure of not finding the right path by USB stick. I tried every USB port and also used the correct device tree and renamed it to dtb.img.

I used to get it started but since a month or two is won't anymore.

Can you help?
Sorry for the delay but i was out
I have been reading and i think that the community gave you a lot os solutions, i don't understand why doesn' t work...
Have you tried microSd instead USB?
Best Regards

For anyone wanting to install CoreELEC I have just been through the process and worked through the attached pdf with great success (use GENERIC img). I installed onto a USB stick. After installation I set up as follows and the results were nothing short of stunning. Well done to the developers and I would urge anyone with a U9-h to give it a go. You won't be disappointed.

from what I read here, it seems like everyone is having a good time with coreelec on their U9-H,
well in my case, CE 9.0.1 user interface seems like very laggy (compared to minix kodi or libreelec), especially when accessing network (I put my media library on NAS). Do you guys really does not have lag problems when accessing network ? Even importing library seems like taking years.
Could this because of bad installation, or wrong bootloader? Please help...

Also, I have another problem with the CE, it seems like some when playing some chinese movies, there is no audio. When in fact, the very same movie file does not have audio problem when played through another player....

I sucessfuly ran coreelec on my minix neo u9-h . It runs really smoothly. plays all formats of video and audio!
There is one thing but I think problem is somewhere else since is was same on original minix android with kodi. I have images folder on NAS with lots of photos in folders. but opening any folder takes a lot of time and than vieving pictures also takes time to load next image... is it a problem the way NAS is connected? i think is NFS not samba. (wired gigabit connection)

other even more annoying thing. the HDMI CEC problem. my TV and receiver CEC gets lost whenever I connect minix to hdmi. I can still control all devices with TV remote, but when minix connected, power off does not turn off the minix. and when powering ON , receiver wont turn on. I read all devices with same chip have this problem and make CEC problems.
Is there any workaround to solve this ? there was u-boot mentioned that helps, but I cant find any info how to do it.

You can stay on external/SD card installation : every time you’re booting, you have to do the power button trick to boot CoreELEC from your SD card or standard Android MINIX OS will start. It’s the safest way.
I know it's months old post but the above statement doesn't seem to correct to me. I'm Minix U9-H for over a year now - started with LibreELEC, followed by CoreELEC now and the only time I had to to the power button trick for the very first time only, after reformatting and re-installing on the card. After that, it boots into LE or CE directly straight away. Should be the same for others as well?? :)

Yes same here.

Just tried the installtointernal script and now CoreElec works really faster.
You must be sure that Device tree is good before.

For U9-H take and install this file : gxm_q200_2g_minix_neo_u9.dts

Caution : To come back to Android you will have to flash the full android image with USB tools.

CoreElec 9.02 stable is out.

https://coreelec.org/

Changes since 9.0.1:

  • added display info to player process info window
  • added dtb sanity check at boot
  • added support to mix LFE in to stereo channels
  • fixed hyperion.ng slowdown issue
  • fixed slow boot on some devices installed to internal
  • fixed subtitle stutter on S912 devices
  • updated Kodi to v18.2

Skynet could you please explain how to get the right dtb.img into the internal installation? I manage to install to internal by using Putty but after installation an error comes. I guess because the right dtb.img has not been installed.

What was the error you had ?
DTB should be copied on USB pendrive BEFORE starting installtointernal script.

However you can have a dtb error message after a good installation, it's a bug. Just go next and all will be ok.

Thanx Skynet.
Got it all working now. First i said NO to copying data to the internal. I gave me the error. After reinstalling and YES to data import all went wel.

I am very satisfied with CE. All i have is playing smooth and without stutter. I even managed to get my Harmony remote working with the Remote Harmony tutorial.

Awsome.
