CoreELEC - MINIX U9-H

There should be very little difference running CE off a USB memory stick from running internally. Internally will boot faster and the menu/interface will be a little snappier, but watching movies should be pretty much the same.

I tested CE by running off an SD card (32GB Class 10). All was good. If you are disappointed I would not install internally until you get satisfactory performance from an SD card.

1 - How did you prepare the SD card? I used the LibreELEC USB SD Creator software.

2 - Did you set the DTB file correctly? I have had VERY poor performance if I forget to set it correctly for my hardware.

I am the same - I installed my CoreElec on a 32 GB SD card and have never changed to internal flash as Kodi performance is just as snappy as it was on my Z84 running from flash. As said, whatever the host media should only affect the speed of menu changes, screen refresh, etc., not the playing of any multimedia that is not resident on the same disk media.

In addition when I went through the CoreElec installation procedure here my impression was that I would need to go through the power button/plug in power method every power cycle to continue booting from the sd card, but found that I can simply turn the box and and off with my TV remote and it always comes up from the SD card.

I have better performance all around with the U9-H/CoreElec on SD card than I ever had with Z84/Windows 10 and don't have the headaches.

I will add I had troubles to get this working initially - as evidenced in my own "help thread" here:

https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/libreelec-files-for-u9-h.642/#post-4291

As per item#2 above - I think I was using the wrong DTB file - I changed to the one in the image directory of the distribution after using rufus to create my install media on the card.

CoreELEC 9.2.0
CoreELEC 9.2.0 is now available. We have come a long way since our first 9.0.0 release 7 months ago, and there have been big changes in CoreELEC. Based upon Kodi v18.4 final, this release has added support for more devices than ever before. CoreELEC now supports the very latest Amlogic chipsets, including S905X2/S922X and A311D using the Amlogic 4.9 Linux vendor kernel.

Changes since 9.0.3:

  • added ability to turn on/off 5v power during power-off/sleep on ODROID-N2
  • added BL301 inject feature
  • added support for Beelink GT-King (S922X)
  • added support for Khadas VIM3 (A311D)
  • added support for S905X2 devices
  • added WiFi firmware for devices with AP6236 chipset
  • added WiFi driver for RTL8822BS
  • fixed RTL8723BS bluetooth support
  • rebranded Kodi
  • updated DVB drivers
  • updated OpenVFD driver
  • updated OpenVPN to enable server mode

Interesting for T5 and U22-XJ, latest minix Amlogic devices :)

It's a bug, i have the same.
You can by-pass it with a click on your remote.

Latest release (the "red" one):

Still getting the countdown bug at start up, except now it's worse cannot by pass it by clicking on any key on the remote!...

Is there a solution other than going back to previous version?

No need to.
Just connect with SSH to your Corelec using Winscp.exe and copy the good dtb.img

Link to the good dtb.img please?
I am booting from sd card, can I just copy the dtb.img file directly to sd?
Thanks in advance..:)

UPDATE: OK, I have downloaded the latest Corelec and extracted & renamed gxm_q200_2g_minix_neo_u9.dtb
to dtb.img and copied to root of sd card, seems to have solved the problem, thanks.

Hi.I am running the CoreElec 9.2.0 release on my U9-H and have been having issues with incorrect decoding of multi-channel E-AAC.
Any suggestions on how to resolve my E-AAC decoding issues?

I also have problems with AAC. 2 channel audio is fine, but multi channel (more than 2) often results in the center channel getting lost in the surround channels and playing at a significantly lower volumn, thus making dialog difficult to hear.

I use audio passthrough to my Denon AVR.

I am experiencing some annoyance type issues with the latest 9.2.0 CE release. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

1: If I turn my TV off for a while (leaving the U9H and AVR on), often (not always) when I turn the TV back on the image displayed is green (it should be blue - Kodi Confluence skin).

2: I am experiencing some movies (on attached hard disk) doing an intermittent dance. I have always experienced the occasional quick freeze or jump, as if a frame or two was missing, but this is different in that the video skips back maybe half a second or so every minute or two.

I should add that neither of these issues existed under CE 9.0.3. Regarding issue #2, I have looked at the mediainfo display of both the offending videos and ones that play without an issue and can find nothing to indicate a problem. I should also point out that the offending videos play without any issues on the computer.

Anyone have any ideas? In the meantime I am patiently waiting for a CE update, which I hope might solve the issues.

I am the same as you - I will turn off the TV and leave the U9 and Surround on. I have not seen the issue you refer to but have only been using CE 9.2 about a week or two. I also still have the "red" skin not having much luck with the other skins.

For skips, hesitations, etc. in videos I have experienced such many times and always tracked it down to a data source speed issue. I just had a severe problem with 4k movies after switching to CE 9.2 and thought that or the U9 box to be the culprit, but found that my file server had witched IP on the ethernet interfaces and I was feeding the video through a 100M instead of 1G ethernet. Perhaps there is a speed issue using the disk on the U9?

I wait to see if I have the same problems as with 9.0.3 - in some cases, especially when skipping forward in a movie, the box would reboot and come back up with the video all wonky, set for low resolution 50Hz, and it would take a couple of reboots and setting changes to get things right again.
