Disable HDMI Audio output

Hi,

I upgraded my Minix u9-H to the latest 7.1.1 Nougat version. After this, I am not able to find a way to disable HDMI Audio output. I expect the audio output to be only from the 3.5 jack and not from the HDMI output.

In the previous version Marshmello-008-FW, when I set the 'Digital sound' settings to SPDIF, the output use to send out by 3.5 jack alone (note: I have no cable connected to the SPDIF port). With the new version, even if I select the SPDIF in Droid settings menu, I still receive the output from HDMI.

Is there some way I can disable this? Please help and thanks in advance.

The device is designed for outputting audio both from HDMI and 3.5mm jack at the same time.
I have a stupid idea - turn off the volume of the TV screen. :p

Well, we are dealing with 4 separate issues here, and there needs to be some clarity outside of the upgrade (7.1.1 Nougat version is indeed in permanent beta, AFAIK)

1. What is the Purpose of HDMI Audio pass-through? Simply put, If you have an AVR that handles HDMI, sending audio over the HDMI cables simplifies cabling (1 cable). Digital audio (DTS, 5.1, TrueHD, Master-HD) is sent to the AVR along with video. Convenient. The AVR strips out the audio, send it to the speakers connected to the AVR and send the remaining video to the TV without any Audio. Good if you don't ever intend on using the TV for sound, which is never any good, ever

2. So Why an additional Optical out? (2 cables) Some people prefer an audio-only sound-solution (think Logitech Z906). So essentially the audio is removed from the HDMI output and sent through the SPDIF connection to the dedicated sound-processing equipment, Video-only is sent to the TV. basically for those who "budget" their way into the higher-end A/V without AVR. Like me

3. In all instances the 3.5mm jack should be outputting a stereo signal (generally as a fail-safe/quickstart), regardless of the HDMI/SPDIF settings.

4. 7.1.1 Nougat version is in beta.
Perpetual beta. My Guess is that they have not been able to get those parts working yet, or ever will on 7.0+, hence M is the official working release, with all features enabled, as designed.

Going beta, is taking all the risks, with none of the benefits and a "please wait...hopefully" mantra.

This does bring up the "upgrade" mantra that thousands of people have. Yes, yes: Latest OS does mean better compatibility and future-proofing.
BUT
In the mantra of "PC-land", will Windows 10 work any better than Windows XP (security issues aside), on a machine designed for Windows XP? No, in the hell!, NO! It's a bit of an extreme comparison, but the theory stands. M is for the Neo U9-H. If we need to fiddle with a few apps and make a couple of minor compromises (like not being on the latest release), yet everything works?

Granted, eventually the streaming apps may eventually become unusable on M, but let me remind you, I still have a kitkat 4.1.2 Acer Iconia A501. I STILL run my Wordpress site from it, today, 2019. Wordpress app is up-to-date, as an app. Tool for a Job, I guess!
