Doing a apt update/upgrade has screwed my box

Doing a apt update/upgrade has screwed my box. I cannot get it to boot. It comes up with a purple screen for about 10 seconds and then the No Video Signal appears. Reinstalled using 18.04.1 from this forum but no joy. Blue LED on so power OK. Tried everything in forums that I have found but cannot get Ubuntu to start. Ideas please? Thanks.

Think that is exactly what has happened. I am no Linux expert but cannot SSH into machine. It pings OK though. I am not sure whether the 18.04.1 ISO image available on this forum installs SSH capability by default.

Is there any solution? I would have thought deleting previous installs and installing from the ISO would have reset any HDMI problems.

Thanks - John

Hi,

you can either try to Install an older Image (with a kernel below 4.15.0-47) or you can try the mDP port attached to DP (worked in my machines) and then downgrade the kernel.

That worked perfectly. Until this is resolved I guess the answer is to not do any updates. Appreciate your response. As a temporary workaound, and because I don’t need the GUI, I have installed an Ubuntu version just to install the server option and told system not to update. But if it happens again at least I know what to do.

Thanks

Rgds John
