DSTV NOW - With the U9-h

Good Day all

Is there anyone who has managed to get DSTV Now to work on your U9-h?

When trying to download in the app store it says that the app isn't supported, so tried downloading the APK file, it works but the minute you go out and back in it says that this isn't supported and that I need to verify in the app store, when doing this is says that the device isn't certified.

Has anyone had the same issue or been able to sort it out.

Hi John, will they look into getting certified?

I see some suppliers in South Africa saying that DSTV now works on the U9-H.

DSTV Now will work on minix if you use an older version of the app. Just sideload the following version 1.42.26

Unfortunately, we're unable to test due to geo-restrictions.
There may have been changes in the app since the last user posted in November.
 
Fellow ZA'r here! DSTV Now running along the same lines as Netflix, only much, much, much worse (Multichoice, go figure). You see with Netflix, due to the vast sea of android devices, TV boxes and phones, Netflix has a bit of an issue around how well their app works on the plethora of devices. It's mainly for Quality of experience, and the DRM issue of protecting content, but more about quality than DRM. For this reason, even though, on paper MINIX U9-H is more than good for 4K, since MINIX has not gone through certification with Netflix, 1080p60 is the best we'll get.

The other, more DSTV-related, serious issue (for Multichoice) is DRM. Multichoice and DSTV by proxy are, by experience, and legal actions, anally retentive about keeping a death-grip of control on their streaming (and overall rights to deliver content they have licensed). No DRM, no run. Install all you like, without the DRM requirements on your device, that DSTV wants, no playback.

DSTV is a peanut in terms of scale versus Netflix on the global market. so, either:

1. DSTV decides to match the basic DRM-ness of some of the higher-end devices (Like the Neo u9-H, that even Netflix admits is good enough), and take a risk, but make a LOT of people happy. Petition email, etc, and hope for the best.

2. MINIX certifies with DSTV Now APP. In a word? Unlikely.

As an afterthought, DSTV Now may have to take the first option. With their streaming-only platform coming this year, they may have to appeal to the market. But it's only a hope. I would also take the DSTV Streaming app. But i've been without Multichoice for the better part of a decade, and I do not miss it.
 
Its a reality for overseas streaming. 720p Is considered "just fine"... So DSTV has clearly taken the same approach. we're ZA, light years behind.
