Ethernet does not work with CoreELEC on my Minix U22-XJ

I had a U22 that did the same thing with CE installed to the eMMC only my ethernet port completely ceased to function with CE & I still used DHCP. (CE updated from 18 to 19 & I did a hard reset of CE, it wasn't immediate but it was very soon after this CE update & reset that the ethernet port then apparently failed & no longer registered a MAC address at all.)

After extensive troubleshooting, re-flashing the MINIX firmware back to the eMMC & physically dismantling the affected U22, the ethernet port then began to work again but somehow the original MAC address had been completely wiped & replaced with the date of the Android firmware build itself.

I continued to use the device for a while with both the official FW & CE running from an SD card but soon afterwards the ethernet port permanently ceased to function. Since, I've tried various means to rectify the problem but it appears to now be permanent.

I've also tried installing FW with root & attempted to reprogram the MAC address back to the original address but nothing has worked so far & the affected U22 will now only work with WiFi which still has its original MAC address. (Obviously, because your device no longer has a recognisable MAC address you can't reserve an IP from your router & it may interfere with other normal network functions.)

I've never experienced this with any other network capable device before & there is definitely a direct correlation with installing CE to the eMMC & allowing it to update and/or reset. Unless absolutely necessary, I'd strongly advise against installing CE to the eMMC as so far I've been unable to reproduce this issue with 2 x additional U22's running Android from the eMMC & CE from SD cards. (I'm not going to attempt to recreate it again with CE installed to the eMMC for obvious reasons as I'm now reasonably certain I could recreate it & that would potentially be another U22 with a dead ethernet port!!)

Ideally, both MINIX & CE's devs need to test for this issue themselves as it essentially renders an ethernet port dead or very limited at best.
Hello again. Out of curiosity, have you come to expose your problem in the Corelec forum? Well, I don't know very well why I ask since they have never answered me when I have asked them something. They have completely ignored me.

Not to mention somewhat troublesome given its ability to render a U22 useless to those that rely on the added security, reliability & performance of ethernet.
Hello again. I'm telling you in case you get the same result. After wasting time trying to change the mac address, without success, I finally decided to try with the recording tool and flashed the rooted version of the FW 006A (20210203) and after this step to start the device again I found a new mac address that I guess it will be the original device because it has a letter and no longer looks like a date and especially the ethernet works both in Corelec and android. I encourage you to try it in case the miracle happens to you as it did to me.
Regards.

Weird issue :censored:
I installed CE 9.1 RC4 on emmc and never had this ethernet issue.
Happy you found a solution.

Try hard resetting your CE installation on the eMMC via the CE settings now that you've updated it & see what happens to adaptive HDR & your ethernet MAC address ;). (Happened to me with the original CE 19.0 release.)

Another potential issue of flashing CE to the eMMC is the device getting permanently stuck in HDR. If dual booting with Android, setting the Android adaptive HDR settings accordingly directly affects how CE successfully handles adaptive HDR as well. After the initial transfer to the eMMC adaptive HDR continued to work perfectly but again after a hard reset the device then becomes stuck permanently in HDR.

Everything seems to work very well indeed with CE installed to the eMMC initially, unless of course you need to update CE and/or carry out a hard reset. In which case it appears the user is then in trouble regardless of what they do with multiple issues that ultimately take some considerable time to re-flash original firmware & mess around fixing these potential problems.

Original advice still stands, certainly for the time being at least, do not risk installing CE directly to the eMMC of a U22 because if you need to hard reset you may well run into these problems.

Well actually I had Coreelec on emmc more than 6 months ago. And the problem happened to me when I had the Alvatech rom installed. I don't know if it was just a coincidence or if it had something to do with the problem in question.

Glad you've fixed yours :).

If your ethernet MAC address once again starts with A0:1E:0B - then that's an official MINIX MAC.

Well it doesn't start like that but the fact is that it has changed when flashing with the official rom and as long as it works I will try to enjoy it and see how long it lasts. For now I do not plan to install more rom unofficial just in case. Discounting Coreelec clear. ?

Hi,
Are there still any issues that may occur after installing to internal storage using CEEMMC?
Someone wrote that he had lost the Ethernet port, someone wrote that after switching off the green LED lights up or the HDR problem. I would like to use dual boot using CEMMC. Minix is listed as supported.
How long does it take you to boot coreelec from EMMC on this device. Thank you

As far as I'm aware nothing has changed at all & the same risks will still be present now if installing CE to the eMMC.

Speed wise there's barely any notable difference between the eMMC & a high quality Micro SD anyway, so just use that instead.

Boot times are barely different either.

I used this method to install CoreElec on Emmc and I didn't loose ethernet connection. The boot is very fast.

I also use coreelec on internal storage with u22xj ,no problèmes all works fine ,i use sd card + putty for instal it ...from Time to Time i install back Android for test New firmwares...and then go back to coreelec on internal storage...never have flashing problèmes or ethernet problèmes...
