Ethernet port link speed issues

Hi, it seems the ethernet port won't go above 100mb link speed, I have tested a number of cat 5e cables, along with two cat 7 & one cat 8 cable, also tested two different routers my desktop pc has a 1gb link speed to the router, as does my laptop when I tested that but the U9 can't achieve it.

I've tried transferring files from my pc to the minix & the transfer rate maxed or at 12mb/s which is spot on for a 100Mb link speed so I used iperf to verify & that also shows the ethernet port is running at 100Mb.

Running speed tests shows my download speed varies from 40-70Mbps, never seen it above 75, upload is always 48-49 & on occasions my download is lower than my upload! Next I tested the wireless & the results were much higher than ethernet with on average 200-220Mbps so yeah I know I could just stick with Wifi but as we all know a wired connection is preferred for a better more stable connection for streaming although not with my box at the moment it seems!

I was running the official android 6 firmware but I installed the custom 7.1.2 that's available to download on this forum to test that but the ethernet is still stuck at 100 link speed, if this is a faulty ethernet port then it's a weird one

I dont have that problem.
Mine ethernet speed is working well at 1GB.
Try for now restart both router and u9h.
It is not custom firmware.
It is CE beta official firmware.

Just confirmed it's a faulty ethernet port, I'm bummed, I've brought so many android boxes over the years, most I've sold on but I forgot I still have an Mxiii-g box, the g standing for gigabit, just hooked it up and 289Mbps speed test result with the first result!

The U9 I have now is a replacement minix support sent me out & I can't remember how long ago that was, will have to see if I kept the original email exchanges with them, it's only because I've just had my Internet speed upgraded that I've discovered this fault, it's probably had it since fast one, I'll contact support & see how I get on.

Edit : Just sent en email to minix support, will have to see if they're kind enough to help me out as I expect the ethernet port has been faulty since day one but I've only just discovered it since having faster broadband installed.

I don't understand how that would have any bearing on you LAN speed?
I'm taking about the wired connection from the ethernet port to my router, with my previous Internet speed of 80/20 the port being stuck at 100mb link speed wasn't visible because at the link speed it can handle an 80mb fibre broadband connection, with my new 330Mbps download speed however it was obvious straight away there was something wrong with the ethernet port & that it wasn't running at gigabit speed hence why copying files over the Lan from my pc to the U9 tap out at 12mb/s, that's the limit for a 100mb link speed, 1gb link can copy files faster than that.

Anyway as said above, I tested another older android box with gigabit ethernet & maxed out my connection straight away with a 289Mbps speed test result so the port is faulty on the U9, already contacted minix support to see what they say, the box I have is actually a replacement they sent me out last year as the original from amazon kept crashing.

If you want to be sure do this:
-factory reset u9-h and then test again.
-You said you tested with another box so the problem is not your router (i think). (last resort factory reset router)
-test also with other lan port, you said you already tested with other cable
-check router home page (for gigabit connection) and do a speed test.

Not heard a peep from minix support since I replied to their email asking how I was testing the ethernet port on my U9, which was using the speed test app using various servers close to me & using iperf to test lan speed & copying files between my pc & the U9, iperf is showing the ethernet port not getting higher than 100Mbps

Anyway I asked all my friends on Facebook if anyone owned a Minix U9 & two did so I asked if I could borrow it for an hour, I swapped my box for the one I borrowed, used my power cable, ethernet cable obviously & hdmi, the only thing I swapped was the box itself for the one I borrowed, ran a speed test & I got 293Mbps,now that's more like it, swapped the U9 back to mine & tested again & no matter what local server I chose on the speed test app 74Mbps was the highest I achieved, swapped out again for the U9 I borrowed from a friend & the first speed test result was 288Mbps!

It's pretty clear the ethernet port is faulty on the replacement box minix support sent me last year but in all honesty I'm fairly sure it's just over a year since I was sent this box so I'm out of luck there with getting it replaced, will just have to use WiFi until i either get another U9 or isn't there a new android box in the works, a rockchip one with a better soc than amlogic s912?

Hello guys,
Have same issue with my u9-h box.
Speed is limited to 50 Mbps while my network is 500 Mbps - Tested on my phone (wifi) and Laptop (cable) and found that my network speed is near 400 Mbps,
Any ideas what is the problem with u9?
I mostly use Kodi + OTTplayer (IPTV)....
Just made factory reset + firmware update (Official version from this forum). Same result, maximum speed is limited to 60 Mbps. When connect same cable to my laptop the speed is almost 400 Mbps...

Things to try:

Wifi:
- Are you connected to a 5GHz band? 2.4GHz bands are limited to the speeds you described.
- Is there wifi congestion in the area? Test with an app called wifi analyzer from the playstore.

- If on a congested channel, try changing the channel from auto to a channel that is less congested in the router settings.

Ethernet:
- Try changing the ethernet cable. Remember, not all cables are created equal.

Overall:
- How are you testing the speed? Not all speed test apps provide reliable feedback.

- Have you tried switching to Google's DNS settings?

- If all fails, have you tried a factory reset?

Thank you,

Here is my feedback

1) No wifi, my box is connected with Ethernet cable. But I will check today what is the speed on 5Ghz band connection
2) Congestion - could it affect Ethernet connection?
3) I changed the cable and both checked speed on my laptop with same cable (the result was good 400 Mbps while on minix with same cable 60 Mbps)
4) I checked speed on different websites and the results are same. Both I checked speed on my laptop with same cable connected and the speed is much higher
5) Google DNS - what does it mean? Is it minix setting change or router?
6) Factory reset - Yes I did it yesterday and installed newest official firmware from this forum, same result...

Few thoughts:
Could it be some Ethernet board issue or any other hardware problem?
Could it be some software issue with the device even though I did new firmware install
Could my provider limit the device speed by MAC address?

Both I contacted with minix support.

Hope there is some solution, I don't want to replace my minix box....

Hi,

Few updates,
First I had installed the Community Edition Nougat Firmware Android 7.1.2 and as I wrote here there was no change with my speed issue.
I contacted minix support team and they recommended me to install the 008FW for MINIX NEO U9-h.
I did factory reset and manually installed the new ROM.
The result is the same...
Speed is up to 50 mbps (wifi 5 ghz) and up to 60 (eterneth cable) while checking on laptot the speed is up to 250 mbps (wifi 5ghz)anf up to 400 (same eterneth cable).

Important note: few minutes after the installation it was looked like the speed is better up to 180 (enthernet cable), but few hours later the issue is backed.
It is really disappointing me, cause live HD iptv isn't work smooth...
Any ideas?

You must ensure that speed test is made with both devices (minix and router) with factory reset settings.

After u9h factory reset install only the speed test app.

Try change rj45 cable, other ethernet port and test only with minix device connected (router)

If you tried factory reset on both devices and then the problem remains contact :
support@mini.com.hk

Other note:
iptv streaming is different (and much slower) than streaming via local (NAS for example).
With local streaming (if your setup is good) you should be able to stream videos without any problems.
The problem may be your iptv service and not your minix and router...

Had exactly the same issue, I've been carrying on at the internet providers for MONTHS! Oops!! Afraid I'm unable to substantiate this statement as it's something a mate of mine said: apparently Android boxes don't cope with LAN very well and Minix worse than most?
I took heed, turned off the LAN setup 5G Wi-Fi and speed immediately rose by 50% to around 90Mbps... No, that's not enough apparently, so as instructed I physically unplugged LAN altogether and now have 400Mbps.
The reason I'm on here is wondering why I can't get the 800Mbps as on my laptop?! Lol ? would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas

I was actually pursuing a potential issue on another brand TV box which is also limited to 100Mbps and tested my U9 on same connection and get the same results with an iperf3 test. My data transfer speed capped at 100Mbps using iperf, but my Internet speed through ethernet is ~150Mbps (which suggests it must be greater than 100???)
But Windows systems at this exact same node and wiring connect at 500Mbps
Is there some bottleneck in Android that is limiting the transfer speed?

Update - apologies - this was simply a cable (pre-manufactured CAT7 at that!) issue
The U9-h with 7.1.2 ROM is happily transferring at 500Mbps now
