Ethernet Problem

Hi

My router died, so I ran a working ethernet line to my fully updated U22-XJ with Android 9. I've tried unplugging the box and restarting it with the ethernet connect, but it will not see the internet.

Any ideas?

If your router is dead, how did you run a working ethernet cable to your u22?

I can do this because the Ethernet cable that enters my house comes from a WiMAX Antenna mounted on the roof of the house.
The antenna has a modem! ?

What device is providing the internet connection?

Have you tried rebooting that device?

You need a router somewhere to get internet connection. You must have at least one public IP or many private IPs given by the router (DHCP).

My real question is why won't my STB pickup the ethernet?

PS: I dug up an old slow router and I'm getting service again.

Delete this part if I can't post it, but Costco is having a sale on a router $70 off, so I'll get that today.

No, I didn't think I'd need to.
Turning the modem off for at least 15 seconds and then back on can be enough to fix connection issues!

Whenever I have had to disconnect the router and connect a device direct to the modem I always power cycle the modem.

Advise to live by in general for future reference too @jjjackson ;)!!!

If you're having issues where something ceases to function normally or as typically expected of it, for ANYTHING, such as your modem, router, to devices like your smartphone, smart TV, to hardware as simple as modern smart bulbs, or even your washing machine.....

....In the first instance, ALWAYS try a restart/reboot procedure if the device actually has one, otherwise just cycle the mains power!

(I dread to think what the true stats are, but a significant chunk of product end users have actually ended up factory resetting, reformatting entirely, or even throwing perfectly good & expensive hardware straight in the trash. ( They often get completely bogged down in a quagmire of potential causes without ever actually taking any notice whatsoever of any possible remedies ;). )

PS: Perhaps a hammer could solve it? :)

I always found hammers so much damn effort especially if a device that was in some way truly defective had already p****d me off after countless hours attempting to remedy it anyway LOL ;). .22 or better is so much more satisfying as well ;). (Although, remember, always utterly destroy your problematic electronic devices in the most enjoyable yet responsible manner, hehe ;).)

Got the $70 off router yesterday and getting all the speed I'm paying for.

PS: Netgear wants you to use their app for setup, but you can click on No cellphone and still do the full old fashion setup on your computer. Much easer if you know what you're doing.

If your new router is compatible you can try this one : https://openwrt.org/
