Expand storage capacity for NEO U9-H

MINIX - Martin

Staff member
It's NOT possible to expand RAM and eMMC for NEO U9-H.

MicroSD card: support up to 256GB
Samsung EVO 256GB microSD card is tested and confirmed to be working on NEO U9-H.

External HDD: support up to 2.5TB
However, users reported that the NEO U9-H is able to support a 5GB external HDD.
Though, we can only guarantee up to 2.5TB.
Please note, NEO U9-H does not support multiple external HDD.

Since I've bought one, I had an external HDD (1.5 TB) plugged in, at the beginning it works properly, but suddenly, the device doesn't recognize it... Without doing anything or only rebooting the device... That issue cost me reinstall the firmware twice.

Is that issue firm problem or may be I'm doing something wrong?

Does anybody have had the same problem? Is there a way to solve the issue without reinstall the firmware?

I'm using the last official firmware FW008, if I'm nor wrong.

Thank you! And it's a pleasure to have you back in business here again!

Of course! I tried it out on a pc and the drive is OK. It's almost new.
After the firm is reinstalled, the drive works fine again...
Thank you for your reply!

Purely as a FYI as an end user....

MicroSD Card - I've used a SanDisk 200GB card from day 1 with my U9-H without any problems or issues, it works flawlessly :).

External HDD's - I have 2 x 8TB Seagate Backup Plus Hubs & 1 x 8TB WD My Book HDD's, (all NTFS). (Obviously these drives have their own power supplies.) Not only do all 3 drives work perfectly with my U9-H but I had all 3 connected simultaneously also without any problems or issues :). (I've since purchased a couple of decent NAS boxes so the HDD's aren't permanently connected to my U9-H anymore, but that's the only reason why). Because the Seagate enclosures are hubs they also have 2x USB ports each, this allowed me to connect a FOURTH HDD simultaneously, a 500GB WD My Passport. (I didn't test any further than the 4 HDD's).

I fully understand that Minix are essentially guaranteeing HDD's up to 2.5TB but the U9-H is clearly capable of much more with specific hardware. What's more, as stated I had 3 x 8TB drives + a 500GB drive all directly connected at the same time. ALL of my HDD's are seen correctly by the system & the apps I use too. I haven't experienced any problems or abnormalities. Officially multiple HDD's may not be supported but mine certainly work just fine :).

Bonus ;).

So I guess you could watch a 4K movie that runs for 5 years

Hi
My Minix U9H has about 9GB left of it`s 16 GB standard memory.
I have installed a 64GB MicroSD Card and formatet as Internal memory.
When I download files it seems that it don`t use this new extra memory.
When it reach about 9GB Minix get slower and slower, and none of the files is
saved on the new expanded SD memory. I then have to delete the files to get it
performance/working again.
Why don`t it use the SD memory?

Use Android adopted storage to merge internal memory with SD memory.

I think you should find an option in androids storage settings somwehere to do this.....you may have to "uninstall" your existing sd card first wiping it clean.

Hi folks,
I have an external HDD connected to my NEO U9. What's the best way to share that disk with my Windows laptop over WiFi? Much appreciated...

My method is to run sambadroid (available in play store) on the minix. I can then see the shared drive on either windows or linux.
I'm sure there are easier/better methods but this works for me :)

Why don't you use the U9-H built in Samba server?

Use the U9-H built in Samba Server then map it as a network drive.

I run sambadroid on my neo x7 (to share my sickbeard downloads) I don't share the U9. I will have to see if the U7 comes with samba share. As I said, I was sure there were better ways :)
