Factory Reset Failed - Dead Box??

OK, so I've connected the U1 via a micro USB cable. I am not sure if it is connected as nothing is showing in 'Explorer'. To test the cable I connected an Android tablet & that showed in Explorer so it is a data enabled cable.

Should the U1 show in Explorer on the PC? If it doesn't (and I know the cable is fine) then does this mean the U1 is dead? Is there any other way to check?

Thanks again.

MartinK

(y)

Using that cable, the U1 is not showing as connected to the PC so I assume it's dead?

MartinK

NO, it isn't dead!!!!

Have you tried connecting to the USB burning tool as per @Marty 's initial response to your problem & the link he provided?

(You may begin to progress a little faster if you actually follow the previous advice ;)!!)

I have run the reflash procedure, faithfully following the instructions. Nothing shows in the Burning tools 'Device ID' window, it's a yellow colour. I must have bricked it :(

If you want an Android TV OS device and you are aware of the limitations then go for it.

If you are used to how Android OS is, as with your U1, then do not! ;)

I am looking to run Kodi, thats all. I have a PC connected which I can run Kodi on but I've quite enjed the Android box experience so I was going to carry on. Can you download apps on Android TV? If you can, what are the main drawbacks from your POV?

I have followed all the advice & used the link he provided to run through the reflash procedure. Nada.

edit: We have a slight overlap of posts here. I am following the advice. I know that there is nothing more annoying than people asking for advice then ignoring said advice completely :)

If you're more interested in Kodi and your U1 is not actually dead/bricked you could try CoreELEC.

It seems it is dead though :(. I'm going to run through the reflash procedure again to see if I've missed anything which is not beyond the realms of possibility

The device certainly doesn't appear to be bricked, although you seem incredibly keen to jump to that conclusion for someone here asking for help to fix the problem!!! (You still have a blue LED & the device responds but fails to essentially boot!!!!)

More likely it's the cable you're using. (Did you try others also as previously advised?)

Additionally, some USB ports themselves on a PC or laptop can also be an issue. If you've been trying with USB 3, for example, try a USB 2 port instead if available.

Otherwise, try all of the USB ports on the PC/ laptop & other cables of a different brand. (Borrow one if necessary.)

Anti-virus software, firewalls or security suites can also mess with the device connecting with the USB burning tool. Try disabling them temporarily too.

Alternatively, if you have another PC/laptop, try them as well.

Which version of the USB burning tool have you downloaded as well? (Some users find that the newer version doesn't work well with older PC's or conversely that older versions don't work too well with newer PC's.)

Or, you can just admit defeat now, quit & get your credit card out ;)

Helpful info about the blue light, thanks. As to the other suggestions;

Yep, ruled out cable issue as per previous post.

PC doesn't have any USB 3.0 ports. Have tried on a couple of other ports, nothing.

Disabled Firewall & don't have any anti-virus running, nothing.

Will try another PC as a last resort as it will be an absolute pig to unhook it from where it sits at the mo.

I have tried 2.09 & am waiting for the older version to download now...21 mins left........

Not keen to spend money :) just keen to avoid wasting time. i.e. if it is dead & thats obvious from the symptoms I can move on :)

I appreciate everyone's help so far.

No. I will do that as a last resort before writing it off, as per trying another PC as it's quite a hassle.

MartinK

OK, that one would have been a good idea to clarify & try right from the start, even before you factory reset the device lol!!

Some steps you've avoided earlier or written off as a last resort can actually sometimes work straight away with no further action necessary.

Oh well, even more work for you now lol.

Just re-reading original post...

Not sure what nothing means?!
I have tried the hard reset method with a pin in the hole underneath but nothing...

With the U1 there is no need to use the hole underneath (Recovery Button). Unless you do not have the latest firmware or are using a custom firmware.

With the device powered off you just need press the Power Button for 6 secs. The MINIX splash screen should appear then after around 10 - 15 secs the Recovery Menu.
Of course if the issue is no HMDI output, this doesn't really help!:ROFLMAO:
