Finally got TWRP working.

Hello,

First of all I'm no expert. This post is not for all of those genius who didn't have any difficulties to figure out how to get TWRP working on our beloved U9-H. I asked once here for help and didn't get any answer...

The only Minix device officially listed on TWRP.ME is the U1 and its TWRP/recovery.img doesn't work with the U9-H.

I tried different routes with AMLOGIC S912 based boxes to finally found a TWRP recovery image that actually works with the U9-H/008FW [Marshmallow].

The file is to big to be attached here. So look for
Filename: recovery-twrp-3.0.2-T95Z.img,
MD5: da6cae7a72bbe139154ad41febbee5e1

The following link to download the img was working at the time I wrote this post.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545582487

Easy Install
1) Install Official TWRP App from a Google Play store
2) Download the recovery-twrp-3.0.2-T95Z.img and make sure the MD5 matches da6cae7a72bbe139154ad41febbee5e1
3) Open Official TWRP app
4) Select TWRP FLASH
5) Select Device > Android Emulator = twrp (don't download thru twrp)
6) Select file to flash > recovery-twrp-3.0.2-T95Z.img from where you stored/downloaded it
7) Select > Flash to Recovery

Then the Recovery Mode will open TWRP...
8) To try it, you can use the TWRP APP to reboot in Recovery.

Enjoy.

Can I ask why you would want to replace the stock recovery? If you place that recovery.img file on the root of an SD card or USB stick, you can boot to twrp without overiding the stock recovery. It can be used without limitations using this method as well. Seems dangerous for very little gain.

Just my 2 cents...

Happy to hear that it worked though.

Why? For all the reasons they made TWRP... I guess

I didn't know the USB trick. So it would be smart to use your suggestion to backup the stock recovery before overwriting anything.

That was a very good 2c. Thanks for sharing.

Good to know, thanks :)

I tested other recovery before that, and the screen is distorted.
This works perfectly. I have not installed TWRP. I used it directly from the external SD Card without changing the original recovery. My experience with root access since 2011 made me never install twrp, but only use it remotely (option on the left on the screen). I haven't tested with magisk.
I used supersu_2.78. The first boot causes a single bootloop even if you clear the dalvik cache, and then it takes time, but starts normally.
Trust, it works.
