Firmware re-installation issue

Hi Friends, a few days ago I attempted to reset my PC and remove all my files. I haphazardly ran through the process by using the Shift+Restart trick from Windows and proceeded to remove personal data. After a while I returned to find the screen displaying a message about erasing the TPM. I haven't seen this before so I wasn't sure how to proceed, but the keyboard wasn't responding either so I shut it down.

So now I am trying to re-install from the MINIX NEO Z83-4: Firmware re-installation instructions thread, but F11 does not respond when I try to boot from the USB. Crtl+Alt+Del works so I know the keyboard is working.

Has anyone ran into this or have any suggestions? I ran a couple queries here but didn't find anything related to my issue. Thanks for reading!

Try F8 instead!!! Keep spamming the key until the recovery options appear.

Failing that, if you're doing a full Windows reinstallation anyway, enter the BIOS (delete key) & change the boot order to the USB flash drive the Windows image is on, save the settings & exit. The system should then restart & boot from the USB drive to begin the reinstallation process. Follow all on-screen instructions.

Just don't forget, as soon as the image is reinstalled, go back into the BIOS & reset the boot order back to the current settings ;).

Hope that gets you back up & running. Let us know how you get on :).

Thank you for your timely response, ArcticWolf!

Unfortunately F8 doesn't work, in fact none of the Fn keys, Del, Delete or Esc keys work. I've learned that pressing Tab disables Quiet Boot and reveals the American Megatrends screen, and it appears to be hanging here. I have attached a screenshot.

You're welcome :).

OooooKkkkkk, that's not good :(!! Obviously some basic drivers & your OS in general have become corrupted, (probably because of the way you went about removing files etc.). Not a criticism, just an observation ;). Will definitely be worth you reading up on how to properly back up, transfer or remove your data for next time though, don't want a repeat of this ;).

There's this as well, but obviously not much good if your function keys aren't working at all, ( https://theminixforum.com/index.php?threads/how-to-reset-windows-10-os-on-neo-z83-4.159/ ).

What sort of keyboard are you using? Neo W2 remote, wireless (dongle), wired?

Given that other users have had similar issues with function keys not working at all, or if they do, they're just not behaving as normal or expected - I'd say it's probably an issue specific to the keyboard and/or the dongle that you & these others are using. (Could be any number of reasons why.)

If all wireless, do you have a wired keyboard you can borrow from another system? (Or a neighbour/family?) Hopefully you'd only need it for a few minutes to actually get you into the BIOS or initiate the reinstall process & then you could try the wireless keyboard again to see if it then starts working normally.

A wired keyboard would be my next move if you haven't already tried it.

Let us know if a wired keyboard doesn't work either, however.

I have run across function key issues when using Logitech K400+ keyboard with my Minix Z83-4 due to my user error. With this keyboard the default function key actions are for other actions than the f1 through f12 function keys. By default you have to press the "fn" key in conjunction with the function key to access the f1 through f12 function keys. Could this be your issue?

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Forgive my untimely response.

The keyboard is a Dell OEM 104-key, wired keyboard but I haven't had problems with it and it works as expected on my other PC.

The only thing I did differently from that guide is choose to "Just remove my files" instead of "Fully clean the drive". In the past I have done the latter--not sure why I did the former. Noted.

So you're still stuck unable to use any function keys or delete?

Do you have another wired keyboard you can try?

I would appreciate someone telling me if there is any solution to the problem. Whether something can be done or nothing can be done. This happened to me when restoring windows, when the installation finished everything was fine, but it was to restart the minix and it has been left hanging forever.
I feel my English because it is written with the google translator.

Just to be clear....

You're also unable to use any keyboard whether wired or wireless with your Z83-4?

Have you tried connecting the keyboard to a different USB port?

Is this why you've resurrected this thread or do you have a firmware issue?

Do you have anything on screen on boot at all?

Thanks for answering ArcticWolf, I use a wired keyboard and F8 does not work or any function keys. I know that the keyboard works because the combination ctrl+alt+del yes that works and the minix restarts. The Tab key also works since I get the same screen as at tmnismo91. But nothing else works. I have tried with all the usb ports.
I have resurrected this thread because it happens to me exactly the same thing that happened to tmnismo91, I do not have any problem with the firmware only since I restarted windows the last time I was hanged with the initial screen with the minix logo.

Can you test the keyboards you have on other PC?
You sure the keyboards are working ?
Please test all the keys f9 and esc included.
